Hi everyone, was hoping you could help me. I am looking at a 1992 Capri Green GTI 8V . I thought all the later GTI 8V has electric windows as they were run out models , this one has manual windows , wing aerial non rainbow interior. Can anyone explain?
Thanks Steve

Sounds about right to me....
Run out's didn't all come with Rainbow interiors - (Depended what body colour they were, Red, Blacks & greys came with a red 5 stripe, BBM Blue and whites had Aqua) or electric windows.
They did all have 16V rear lights. Just cos it's registered in '92 don't mean it was a 92 year model - could have been sat in storage for a while @ the dealers.

Hi thanks for the reply, was just checking as I have to travel a long way to buy the car and was doing my security checks. Hoping to pick up on Saturday hopefully its as good as it looks in the pictures
-
Buy it on body condition ONLY...
Anything else can be changed/sorted/sourced...
-
Yes sound advice, no rust hardly been used, 42K so you can imagine its top money but you get what you pay for
-
Rust isn't related to mileage...
Low mileage should't mean a high price unless it's totally backed up with all docs and a yearly service schedule either with VW or a VW specialist!
So make sure you give it a good going over and if it's top money I would be making sure everything is as it should be.
Got a link or picture?

^^^^ been for sale for yonks over here. 6k is way over priced imo. 3k would be more acceptable
-
Have you been to see the car ?
-
Nope
-
I've always liked that colour...
At that price I would want it to be nothing less than in "Concourse" condition.
I would question why there are no interior pics? what's wrong with showing them unless there are issues that he don't want people to see?
I would also go through the history with a fine tooth comb as thats one of the selling features and if it's not perfect - barter!
BBS center caps need replacing as they dont match the standard of the wheels, thats a £100 fix there!
Check all the plastics make sure they are 100% perfect and with no scratches especially on the bumpers as they can't be bought new! also make sure the bumpers aren't sagging
Make sure no shopping trolley dints and like I've said before - NO RUST!! - window surround, tailgate, fuel filler, battery tray, bonnet hinges around the bottom of the arches...
also check the boot - under the carpet should be immaculate & the original build sticker should be there. make sure the front slam panel has the VW stickers attached....
Your looking at paying top money - so be picky!!!

Hi thanks for the excellent advice. Good point regarding the center caps, they have been changed and now match.
I do agree its a lot of money but provided its rust free and original, genuine mileage etc you have to say that cars like that come at a price. I have seen the interior, boot and all appears original and first class. Is it concourse ? No but it could be. I have spent hours talking to the guy selling who is a genuine enthusiast who I like. Will I pay over the odds? only time will tell. Wish be luck, I am off on the plane Saturday. Will keep you posted if people are interested ?

well when you are over you may as well look at this one also as a backup plan

lisburn is only 10mins down the road from Belfast
-
yes I have seen that one, would provide me with a benchmark.
Had an interesting time with HPI , the two DVLAs don't share the data even though they are both in the UK. If a car is shipped from the mainland to NI the new V5 will show the owner in NI as the first registered keeper with no previous owners. I have managed to clarify and all stacks up but took a few phone calls.

I sold my capri green MK2 GTi last week. It would certainly be nice to see another one going around Cornwall. Really lovely colour.
-
It will not be out in the rain and it rains a lot in Cornwall
-
Your spending that much money on a car you will not drive 9 months a year?
-
probably 10 months with our weather !
-
Well?
-
Went over on Saturday viewed the car agreed a realistic price, ferry to Liverpool then 350 miles back to Cornwall. Great hospitality from the seller would have loved to have spent more time in Belfast. Car has had paint but no rust, very solid. A few usual Mk2 issues issues , heater barely works, rear bumper sagging with broken bracket, temp gauge reading low. First job is to change the exhaust , horrible noisy aftermarket, awful.
Where can I get a good quality standard exhaust ?
-
Nice one! Keep an eye out in classifieds section ebay etc for std genuine mk2 8v backbox - should be able to pick it up for anything between 25-60 2nd hand
enjoy mk2 life :)
-
I need a full system nothing on e bay at the moment
-
Stick a wanted post up in classifieds here.
For the front n middle silencers the likes of ernst exhausts are good value, but hold out for genuine backbox they come with stainlrss steel tips so finish the back of the car off nicely
eurocarpart or gsfcarparts might be able to get you ernst exhausts
-
Where is the exhaust after market from? I have an original manifold and down pipe taking up room in my garage. Might put a clear out on the wanted section or ebay.
