Just been given a 10'' sub box for free, so might as well stick a sub in it!
What do I do next - I have no idea.
Presuably I need an amp to power it, does this get is feeed from the pre -outs of my head unit? Its a sont MPX CD40 4*50w.
Would I need to upgrade the current speakers to mathc the sub?
What about cabling?
Cheers

cables. just but a amp wiring pack.
Pre outs from the headunit go to the amp.
Remote wire to trigger the amp is the blue one on the headunit. this also goes to the amp
amp's (-) earth goes to the car's bodywork (ground)
Power cable with in-line fuse goes from the (+) battery terminal and straight to the amp.
Now just run some good wires from the sub to the amp.
Now power it all up...
BANG!

Think I follow that!
Any particular amp i need - mono, multi channel?
Don't want to buy something sh!t!!!
what it I want the amp to run other speakers, or should I just leave that to the HU?
if there is a thread that spells all this out - just point me in the right direction!

well if ur just gonna run an amp then mono would be the best bet if you want to add some components or 6*9's then a full range amplifer would be the way to go i had this for a while but ditched it for serious power but i had a set of decents componments running from a jl audio full range amp with the high pass switched on then a 12" running the other 2 channels bridged with the low pass filter switched on to be honest the system was sweet but the amp cost a fortune at the time

not to rude dude but running 6x9's is the worst thing to do if you are gonna put a sub in your boot amped up.it will reverberate the 6x9's and sound sh!t.the best thing is to by custom fit component speekers.you dont have to amp them up you can just run them off you head unit.i have pheonix gold amp and sub of 1ooo watts and the rest are jbl components sounds well crisp!
but at the end of the day its all down to the individual.anther plus with not having 6x9's it that they arent on show that way nobopdy will do a smash and grab!evem if you bolt them in it wont stop them smashing you window trying to get at them!

think that is what I'm planning.
Cheap mono amp and 10'' sub, leave the HU to drive the speakers - which I'll upgrade in the near future.
cheers all
