Not sure if there is a thread but can someone advise me on what's the best paint to but for me to paint my engine cover also what other engine parts can be painted I've got tims of hammerite I used on my calipers but don't know if I can use that cheers

Painted my mk4 engine cover with plastic primer and a basecoat and two to three coats of clearcoat never had any issues as long as you prep properly ie key the surface of the plastic with some 1500 grit wet and dry for example this will provide the primer with the adhesion to stick to your engine cover i too used some hammerite on my brake calipers and sealed them with a coat of clearcoat

No problem,i hope you mean wet & dry  you could but i would personally use a normal basecoat paint, yep filter box can be done (at one time mine was done) pretty much anything within reason i.e Grille and badges, inlet manifold, fuel pressure reg amongst a few items.
