Title: Scratched rim :'(
Post by: TomS_ on 24 July 2013, 20:14
Whats the saying? Never use your personal stuff for work?

Anyone know what the options are for at least minimising the appearance of the scratches, if they cant be repaired fully?

Actually Im covered for business use on my insurance, but I doubt it covers anything like this. Probably not worth the claim either.

Ouch!

Diamond cut alloy refurb will bring it back to new.  Costs £80-100 per wheel.  Lepsons are a reputable company but other places do it too.   For a cheaper fix, you could try a DIY alloy repair kit, but results can be a bit

Have a look on ebay see if you can get a 2nd hand wheel.

My wife did the same to our n/s front wheel too, refurb next month when the tyres are replaced, as booth says its about £80 with a proper diamond cut finish.

I've learnt to live with my NSF scratched quite badly, it's the one that's *always* in the line of fire when parking and I think if I'm gonna spend the time, cash and effort getting it to Lepsons I'm gonna be paranoid every time my wife or myself park up, as I know *it will* get kerbed again and I'm not prepared to suffer that.... So I leave it, thinking that one day it needs doing... Perhaps when we come to sell it on.

Off to France in a few weeks, wish me luck with the OSF!

Always been paranoid about parking and so is my wife so keep away from kerbs at all times and at the far end of car parks away from everyone particularly 4x4s who seem a lazy lot in most cases.

Ive decided to do something that will hopefully help in the future.

I'll park up nice and close to a kerb, on both sides, and I'll make some small marks on the lip of the bonnet that I can see from the drivers seat that line up with the kerb.

So when I pull in I'll at least have some kind of indication what my limits are. Hopefully that will at least help to reduce the chance of any further scratches. In the mean time I guess I just "deal with it" until I work out what I want to do.

Shame really, the car was bought second hand and the rims were spotless, which was quite amazing. bah!

Yeah but will your seat be in exactly the same position every time you drive?.....  Or will it be 1 or 2 'clicks' out which would mean the bonnet marks could put you 6inches closer (or further away..... Or is it closer?)to the curb!
Life is far too short.......
