Hi this is my 1st post, I am in need of serious help guys, any ideas welcome. the story goes:
I started off with a 2002 golf 1.4 16v, I required a gti 1.8 turbo which was not in good condition, so my idea was to put the 1.8t in my 1.4 golf. I have swapped the:
engine
exhaust
ecu
wiring ect
when completing the car wouldn't start due to the immobiliser kicking in, I contacted VW dealer who said the keys need to be re-coded to the ECU.
I took the car to VW who then coded the keys in and the engine ran fine, and all drove fine.
after driving for about 10 mins, the engine cut out and wont start, it cranks but no start. when cranking theres no fuel froom the fuel pump, cant here the pump going, tried reading ecu with code reader, and is unable to communicate. I have checked fuses and all ok, I am stumped... the brief time it drove it drove fine, no warning lights ect all ok.
ANY IDEAS, PLEASE HELP, CHEERS

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when opening the drivers door?
You really need to get it scanned for codes, do you have an aftermarket head unit fitted?

hi, no I cant here the fuel pump when you open the door, I have a pioneer head unit in. its been in for about 4 years and given me no problem. ive had 2 different scanners on it and non of them can communicate with the ecu. both have worked fine in the past. cheers

As dom says. Just turn the ignition on and have drivers door open and listen to a high whine moise (thays you fuel pump "priming", pushing fuel through) if you can hear it then should be a relay thats fooked and needs changing. Have you checked all of the fuses?

Could be your ecu that's f**ked

Posted just after you posted. Ok its going to be the relay or fuse

ive checked all the fuses in the dash fuse box, haven't checked and relays, I find it weired that after all the work it drove fine for a short while and then cut out. I would have thought it would have had trouble from the start. does this sound major, do you know if there is some sort of master fuse that shuts down the ecu, but still allows the engine to crank, cheers guys

My car would still turn over with a f**ked ecu

I would check all wires / fuel pump. Did you use the 1.8 fuel pump. I wonder if you could use a external fuel pump, bet you can. I did it on a clan clover that ran 2 weber carbs.

Also check your getting a spark from plugs aswell .
-
I didn't use the fuel pump from the other car as I was told that the petrol engine fuel pumps are the same and produce the same fuel pressure, just find it strange that it did run and drive fine once everything swapped over

you were told correct re the fuel pumps

Check your crank sensor it controls the too things that on your car that do not work, new parts can fail.
