Hi guys,
I think there was confusion on here before as to whether the leather option comes with red stitching. Well it appears it does, in Ireland at least, and I can't imagine it'd be any different in the UK.
Check this one out for sale over here - http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volkswagen/Golf/GTI-2.0T/36813713047281680/advert?channel=CARS

Yeah I raised this afew weeks ago as I have ordered leather and got a bit of a shock when I saw a photo of the red stitching. Every photo I see has either been a pre launch car on press shoots etc or foreign magazines or websites. I am yet to see a definite UK post launch car to confirm.
-
Oooooh I hope you are right about the red stitching, I posted a question about this soon after my order was placed in April and someone on this forum was adamant that we would not get the red on UK spec cars.
Will ask the dealer tomorrow when I see him but this forum knows more methinks!
-
I too would like to have the red stitching. I'm not sure whoever denied we'd get it was certain in that they had proof, but I think they said it was the same with mk6 cars where in Europe they got red stitching but UK spec did not.
So since then I've assumed there will be no red stitching, but it would be a nice surprise
-
My reply was that it's not mentioned in any of the uk marketing material and was never available on the mk5 or 6 in the uk so i doubt it will on the 7 just like don't get the half leather option.
-
The MK6 never had it either in Europe unless I'm very much mistaken. Perhaps in the ED35 but not the standard car. UK cars will have it, I'm 99.9999% certain
Edit - the ed35 in euro land did have it, here's a pic I took in Autostadt last summer

Hopefully a forum member will soon have one delivered with leather to confirm or we spot one in a showroom in the UK, I posed the question to my dealer and they did not know the answer

I find it hard to trust a lot of what dealers say. I've posed questions that they have answered only for it later to transpire they answered wrong.
One example is a question I asked about SD cards. It was only because I'm fairly savy that I spotted their first attempted answer was BS. I then played email tennis for near half a day before I could get them to understand the question and seek a proper answer from Germany. If I had been asking about something I wasn't personally a little knowledgeable on then I'd have no clue whether to trust their answer or not.
Anyhow, I still suspect there will be no red stitching due to Jimble's answer. Can always hope though!

I took delivery my GTD yesterday and the leather has grey stitching, which suggests to me that the GTI is likely to have stitching. My MK6 also had a leather interior, but the stitching was plain black. I must learn how to post pics, at this rate I will never get the hang of the Discover Nav! Hope this helps.

Awesome! This makes me ! :smug:

Think dervy needs to post some pics fairly sharpish!

That's good for you leather folks as its a nice touch.
Btw, who in their right mind would pay £34,500 for not just that GTI but any GTI!
-
Oh wow, £34.5k?
Perhaps I should place a second order with DTD then I can keep which ever car arrives first and flog the other one for £3-4k profit! Hehehehehe

Trying to post pics, but unfortunately I am a bit of an IT numpty. Someone give me a clue and I will post later.

Make new post in forum. Click the "IMG" symble above the first smiley, or manually type "[ img][ /img]" (remove spaces, they just there so it actually appears in my post) and then CTRL-V the link from your clipboard.

How was the leather? What was the quality like?

I told you I was an IT numpty!!! The leather seems good quality to me. It appears softer than in my Mk6 and the seats appear to be capable of accommodating the more fully figured individual without losing the necessary grip! They are very comfortable and a very nice design, although I preferred the way the headrests were built into the back of the seat on my mk6.
Back to quality. I suppose only time will tell, but the ones in my three and a half year old, 40,000 Mk6 GTD looked virtually as good as new when I sold it - and the leather smell remained. I don't think that you will be disappointed - I'm definitely not
-
Cheers mate! And great looking car btw, good colour choice, goes well with the roof. And despite my comments in the alloys thread those wheels really suit it!
-
Leather looks awesome, but couldn't justify £2,700 on them. I was shocked at the cost I have to be honest.

You mean £1700. But yeah its real expensive! I'm trying to remember what I paid for my Ford leather. I think it was £600 for leather sports seats with red trim, but no heaters. £600 is more reasonable and I'm very happy with the quality of it. Just hoping the VW quality is at least as good as if it isn't I'd feel short changed by that price. (Hmm, it might have been £900, I really can't remember).
Oh, and the non-leather seats were very comfy I thought. I'm basically going leather because I love it so much on my current car. If I was to go cost cutting I'd probably axe this first though, then the performance pack! That knocks nearly £2.7k off the price!
