I left my car in gear on a hill for a few hours. When i started it up again there hardly any power its just slippin and the engine sounds like a motorbike engine.
The engine seems ok, the clutch seems ok. what could this be gearbox or driveshaft or what.
How much is it gonna cost me?
-
did you try to crank it whilst in gear?
-
Yea i drove 3 miles home in it. It moves but it just slippin like mad.
-
I had another look at it and it almost sounds like there is no exaust. Its got a full custom exaust system so i dont think its that i dunno.
-
what do you mean its slipping?
-
When i accelerate its just not catching right as if there is somthing wrong with the cutch but it changes gear ok.
It must be somthing to do with when i left it in gear on a hill. What would that break? I never leave it in gear just this once i dunno why.
-
which gear did you leave it in? and which way was it facing on the hill?
-
First gear. The hill was downhill faceing forward.
-
oh hang on. is it a vr6 engine?
-
Yes it is.
-
did you check the exhaust is still on it? people have been known to swipe them. ridiculous but true.
-
lol yea the exhaust still on it. you got any other ideas? Ill find out soon enough, gonna phone the garage in the morning, probably get booked in for monday. Just wondering if its a major problem or what and how much it will cost.
Just cant understand how it can be running sweet then two hours later i start it up and it sounds like a bag of spanners lol
-
any chance of foul play like someone jamming something in your tailpipe? did you park in enemy territory lol? oh is it an obd2 engine?
-
I dunno what it is. Its a 1998.
-
ah ok. well the obd1 had an ignition distributor and the obd2 had a coilpack. so it could be your coilpack that's failing. does it have a misfire and stinking of petrol?
-
Maybe it cud be. Thats interesting cuz i have to take it to a different guy if its electrical. There is no smoke coming from the exhaust tho.
-
any decent garage should be able to diagnose a bad coil pack. going by what you have said that would be my first port of call. let us know how you get on yeah?
-
Its booked in for tomorrow morning, so I will find out tomorrow. Its a decent garage, usually takes a week to get in.
If its is the coilpack, how much will it cost? About £80 im thinkin?

Hopefully all won't be to bad mate but hey its a mk3 :lipsrsealed:
-
whether you panic or not the outcome will be the same . I think the fact you had it parked on a hill was just a coincidence. I had a coilpack fail on me in a fiat punto when I went round a corner to fast lol. but that was probably a coincidence to. mind and let us know the verdict.
-
10 points for gazareth, it was the coilpack lol
-
ah you got it sorted sir  nice one. did you get a good price?
-
not really no lol im getting a new coilpack so its not cheap.
-
Even so bud glad you managed to get sorted :afro:
-
Yea im glad its sorted now.
Got my car back earlier today. The mechanic showed me the old coildpack, whatever is inside it has over heated and expanded which resulted on a chunk of plastic cracking off. Hes said he never seen anything like it.
