Title: clickin/tapping noise fron wheel, gets faster when i speed up-wheel bearings??
Post by: Jasikasisback on 22 July 2013, 23:25
ok i thought this was the splash guard rattling but probably isn't.

Being the hottest day of the year my car decided to make a thump thump noise that got faster and louder as i sped up. Scared me so pulled over and looked at the car, splash guard loose so fixed that. Went for drive, seems ok, but noise came back...then went away..

This is driving in a straight line, no turning and in when in reverse noise is gone.

So risked a trip for food shopping, noise is faint but car drives ok. Checked play in tyres and mounts Seems ok...

Drove around for a bit and noise disappeared .
but takes them to a machine shop??

Every year the car does this...passes mot and no problems..then it all starts...:)
Looks like I will need new wheel bearings.
I found a guide on vortex, anyone gave any pointers ?? I assume no one packs/presses their own bearings anymore.... anyone got a good guide/ videos on how to do this??? all going to crapiola on the car...I wish it was only the warm weather but it is not.

The car sometimes pulled to one side when breaking ever so slightly...brakes ok so i think the wheel bearings are in need of replacing although not much play in the wheels when jacked up..

What a money pit this car gas become...

Could be a seized/sticking caliper

Brakes make some horrible noises when disks are distorted or pads are sticking

Oh the horrid clicking noise, the problem is on any car this could be 101 things from gear box to a nail in your wheel.
I understand this is no help but its true.

Well if the noise goes when you fix the splash guard remove it completely and see if its gone.

Clicking I would be looking at cv joint first

Could be the ABS selector ring catching on the sensor.

I bet you have a nail or a stone stuck in one tyre!

i think you were right Len, whatever was causing the noise is gone. At least I inspected the front wheels. I am hoping to have the suspension last awhile longer, at keast until I can get my own place with a garage and somewhere to place my own tools.

Add endum-noise is back..:(
