Thanks mate. I rember i did look into this a while back actuly saw like a 3 page step by step. So you can just replace the clips? Why did they say i need the whole lot!? Any one in london done this before and fancy fixing mine for me. Ill bring the car to you

I'm doing mine tomorrow mate. VW tried to sell me the hole skin for 110quid I walked out laughing and have ordered just the regulator from ECP for £35 quid. Then I'll follow the guides and fix it hopefully for well under what they charge.
You can get just the clips from eBay but I need to get it done ASAP so it wasn't really a viable option for me. I may do this for the other 3 doors though to be sure.

rears are different to the fronts, they won't need replacing

Ah that's good to know, cheers Wazzer that saves me 70 quid. I need to replace the passenger door at some point over the summer, so I'll just update the clips for that at the same time.

I say that but I did break one of my rears, the only reason it broke was me being heavy handed with it while clipping the window back in though

After reading your post I went and had a look at the spare rear I've got and I see what you mean about the different clips. It looks much more substantial but yes I imagine a heavy hand would still break it easily.

Oh and to the OP have a look at the guide on mkivuk by image werx. It's detailed and includes pictures of each step which is very helpful.

Just to add in on here about this.
I have a mk4 golf 5 door. The front windows are smooth and have no issues. But the rear windows by the looks of it, were not regulary used. What i mean is, the rear passenger window was opened last week. Went to raise it and it stopped 3/4 up and the automatically went back down. Tried again and took 3 attempts to get it closed. There is a thick streak at the top of the window going accross which makes think there were barley used.
Any tips on how to ease these windows without having to rip the door apart?
Thanks
