Title: starter motor?

Apart from buying a different 1 is there anyway way of stopping a starter motor from carrying on after start up cheers

do you mean it carries on running after the cars started?

Yea it makes an annoying  squeal after it starts cheers

are you sure this is the fan belt slipping? get a video up via photobucket i am only saying this as it happened to my transit and it turned out to be that.

The starter motor squeal is a common problem on the mk4.
You can strip it down and refurb it but doesn't last forever.

best bet is buying a new one, the pigeon noise it makes is so annoying!

I would buy a new one but wait as long as possible to fit it as I fitted a new one and it started makin the noise again after 12 months!  :cry:

cheers for the link mate gave it ago today and worked a treat saved me £96 aswell  :grin: its like having a new car  :laugh:

Best thing ive done so far mate lol well worth the hour or so work,  got to get used to it tho as i still wait for the screech which never happens lol

Is it difficult? I need to do this, but although I'm quite handy with spanners, I still get nervous doing things like this lol

I aint got a clue what im doing with cars mate  :grin: and i found it really easy using the guide above and works a treat

Probably f**k it up  :laugh:  na its really straight forward if i can do it mate anyone could,  id happily do it again if i had too :smiley:
