Who else has been for a cruise past their local dealer to catch another peak at their demo GTi just to tide you over during the wait ?!
Went out on my bike this morning and then took a detour past my dealer, and there was the white demo parked up, couldn't resist taking another good look round it
-
Worse, I actually went out on test drive even though I have a vehicle on order :D
-
Guilty as charged
Been to two separate dealers. One to look/sit in, the other for a test drive. Wicked!
The waiting is horrid
-
Damn that white looks sooooo good!
Nope, the only time I've seen a demo GTI is when I had to pop into my dealer last week to drop off some paperwork. Didn't have time to take a good look around it, and won't be going out of my way to have another gander! I think I've seen enough pictures and read enough reviews to know it's awesome, and gawping at one will only make the waiting even worse than it already is! The next time I get up-close and personal to a GTI will be mine when I go to collect it :)

You're a barrel of laughs aren't you Gryzor
-
I drive past the dealer almost everyday as its right next to work. Too many cars parked so hard to see it though.

This is the correct answer

I have passed the dealership i bought from to see if its on display a few times but for some reason they keep there demo out the back
just out of curiosity did anyone else buy without test driving the car. I wouldn't feel comfortable ordering a 26k plus car without at least trying it

I bought my Mk5 GTI without a test drive, and I've done the same with the Mk7 GTI. I had no doubts anyway, and now the reviews are out and people on here can testify to the quality of the car and ride, no worries. Now, if it were a cheaper car with lots of compromises, I would absolutely have test driven one to make sure I was happy, but this is all the car I want.

If you've had one before then fair enough. I'd not driven a GTI before this one. personally I prefer to base my decision on personal opinion rather than reviewers

I've bought a mk 5, 6 & 7 GTI before driving them. And having test driven the 7 months after ordering I know I've made yet another excellent decision!!

I don't think having one model testifies the quality of a future model. I just researched enough about the car to know that it's perfect for my needs. In terms of how it drives, it's hardly going to be a let-down. But, it's obviously more than reasonable to want to test-drive one first before taking the plunge!

I have just been to my local dealer and seen their demo. It is an awesome car. The 18" Austins look larger and much better in the real. Photos do not do them justice. The car also looks much better in the real. The visit today only justifies why I am going to spend so much on buying the car. I also love the cloth seats. I was a bit unsure whether the cloth will be as good as the Alcantara Seats. I can only say they look much better when I saw them today. The moral of this post is go and see a Demo GTI now as Photo's do not do it justice.
Damn, I have to wait at least 2 more month's all going well??

Same here, never test drove any of my last few cars. When you know you know

Buying a gtd and still haven't driven one!!

Get rid of the wife.

Have Pulman not set up any of their 3 GTDs as demo cars yet?
-
only the red one. blue one next week at Durham some time, white one don't know.

I'm not far from Pulman although when I went in to discuss buying a GTD the salesman couldn't of been less interested in selling me one. Might go and see if they'll let me drive one.
-
I have been into my local dealer every 2 weeks since mid may they keep saying they will not have a demo GTi in before early aug
and no GTD before end of aug .
So I went to the dealer 16 miles away on 1st june and had a run in a GTi which they had for 2 weeks and placed my order with them , :smiley
:They took delivery of a GTd last week .
, it seems like VW have there favourite dealers

Similar patchy experience here, booked a test drive with a dealership one saturday afternoon. 10 mins later I get a phone call saying the car was not available as one of the sales manager's family was going to be using it for the rest of the day and then he was off on holiday for a week with the car.
Dealership two didn't have one available as it had to come in from another "place" (where I don't know)
Dealership three rang me and offered a test drive in the pouring rain last thing on that saturday afternoon (full marks to them) and eventually placed an order with them after the other two dealerships were silent for 3 weeks.

Did you order from one of the Lookers branches in Teesside?

Such assholes. If I ran that dealer the "sales manager" would be told to clear his desk and get out.

If you ran that dealer, you'd have your GTI! Hopefully it would be your own and not the branch demo.

I remember being told by my dealership at the time when they received their Demo that I wouldn't be able to test drive it for at least a month as it was a showroom car. Well a few days later I popped in unannounced to take a look and low and behold it wasn't in the showroom. I'm sure the manager had been taking it home with him. Anyway, ten mins later and the dealer pulls up outside and takes me for a test drive  .
After the test drive, the sales manager then jumps back in the car and disappears out of the dealership with it. It was a bank holiday that weekend and I wouldn't have been surprised if he had buggered off home with it. You would have thought that just having received the car and being one of the first to get hold of a demo they would have been desperate to show it off and to try and get as many orders as possible. Well it would appear not.
They are full of sh1t

VW sales do seem to be bucking the trend here in the North East right now - the dealerships are always busy even when plenty of other dealerships are literally begging you to pay them a visit (i'm being stalked by the local Nissan garage right now). When I was in Benfield Scotswood Road a few weeks before my dad got his car, curious to see what deals they were offering with their "VIP weekend event" (a measly 3% off a GTD/GTI and a sh!te part ex value), the 2 salespeople within earshot were both looking to wrap up GTD enquiries with a positive sale. They were trying it on pretty hard with me too (even though I was just in out of curiosity, long after setting up my order with Pulman).
I suppose that constant level of business even in the bad times does breed complacency towards the customer.

I don't think its just VW to be honest. Quite a few of the premium brands don't ever appear to be affected, whether it's Audi, BMW, Porsche etc, these companies always seem to do well regardless on the economic situation.
-
I would agree with that based on my recent experiences. Audi weren't that great (and their A3 saloon isnt really going to appear until 2014 with any fun engines so I guess that was why) and I didn't even get a look in at BMW nor Merc when I popped over. Jaguar dealership was really good, surprisingly.
Just glad I have a vehicle on order now, and even though it will be the December before it arrives, I am pretty happy :)
-
Well it's up to us guys to shop the bad dealers to Vw , don't let the buggers get away with it , if Vw are ever to better their uk dealer bases attitude to customer service ( which is not good ) then they need our feedback , just be honest , it will Benifit us all in the end !

That would be great if VW UK gave a sh!te (which they don't).
Dealership's attitudes towards customers varies a lot (I feel like i'm getting treated better than mcmaddy at mine because i'm a repeat customer who's also brought my dad into the fold), VW UK are consistently nonchalant towards their customers, especially when we're looking to find out why our build week has slipped yet again.

I think I must be getting old but when I dropped my mk6 off for its annual service I noticed the dealer's GTD demo out of the corner of my eye and although it looked resplendent in red in the sunshine I didn't even go over to have a look at it, nor the red GTI.
In fact my mk6 was causing far more interest in the dealership!
I saw the red GTI demo out on a jolly (two sales guys in it so not a test drive!) on my way back to collect my car after its service and it certainly looks good on the road but the wheels really looked swallowed up in the arches.
Was hoping to get a shot of the two side by side for the forum but alas it was not to be and I couldn't even see an angle where I could get a decent shot of the GTD as there were cars in the way.
-

I'm telling ya, they should have been more adventurous with the styling.

Evolution not revolution guys. Although I do agree it could have stood out a little more
-
In contrast, it was the subtlety of the GTI which really attracted me to it. I'd much rather have a car that doesn't need to advertise how good it is!
-
Funny, because I think the mk 6 is really dated now when compared to the 7. Let's face it, none of them really stand out massively - but that's the point!

Yeah the branch in Canon Park. Why's that? (No horror stories I hope )

Just an assumption I made when you made it clear you hadn't ordered from Pulmans. The only horror stories in Canon Park happen on a night. I went to Uni in Middlesbrough and lived right by the Arena. I had to walk around there quite a lot to get to anywhere and it is full of the ugliest prostitutes known to man. They were like scantily clad "Shaun of the dead" extras.
Never ordered at Lookers, was always driving old Peugeots when I was down there. Are they receptive to a good deal?

Haha that's the kind of horror stories I'm I'd be more receptive too!
I didn't have a good experience with Pullman, bloke really wasn't interested in making a sale. Even when I phoned them with Lookers offer and asked if they'd be able to come close they didn't phone back. This was the Durham branch.
Lookers were spot on though. I told them my budget, they came in under budget and then when I added the nav managed to do me a good deal. Also gave me a guaranteed trade in on my current car even though it'll have a fair few more miles on it.
You get yours from Pullman? Durham or Sunderland? Have to organise a photoshoot when they arrive!

I do get the impression that the Durham branch is the one people go to to pay list price and Sunderland branch are the ones more receptive to a bit of a deal - probably postcode snobbery for the Durham branch. Benfield seems to be the same in recent years - Morpeth/Hexham(Carrs)/Silverlink not interested in a deal or giving a decent part ex - Scotswood Road branch are usually more willing to get you a discount to make the sale.
Mine is coming from Sunderland branch. I think i'm a bit more impressed with their service than mcmaddy is, especially after the effort the salesman put in to rush through collection of my dad's GTD to accomodate his schedule of driving back down south with it (he lives in Southampton now) after a visit. Although my order was arsed up a bit allowing my dad to jump the allocation queue, i'm njoying my Scirocco right now, so I only feel like i'm missing out on the new toys.

Yeah didn't think to give Pullman Sunderland a ring after the poor experience with the Durham branch. Glad they've sorted you out though mate.
-
Kyle, Durham didn't bother ringing me back either so I rang Sunderland. its like chalk and cheese although the couple of issue I've had have been cleared up now.
