Title: Help Please
Post by: olly1505 on 18 July 2013, 19:58
Ok. So i went on holiday for a week, when i returned i tried to reverse off my drive but the car was stuck, like the rear breaks were locked on or something, i had taken the handbrake off obviously. I managed to get myself out of it by reversing with some power. Anyway last couple of weeks i have started to notice a high pitch screaching type of sound when driving between like 10-40mph, if i use the breaks the noise goes away. It seems to be getting louder/worse and is coming from the back end of the car. Also sometimes when i break i can hear a unhealthy noise coming from the breaks at the front(i think) like a clatter sound.

Seems i have caused some damage, any ideas?

It sounds like the wheel bearing needs replacing, or the brake pads are grinding on the discs

Jack up each wheel and try spin it. Sounds like you have a binding caliper.

You could try the sharan handbrake spring mod to help the handbrake go back to the stops but sounds like you could do with taking them apart and giving them a service to make sure they are working/ sliding smooth first.

update. Had pads and discs replaced on the rear and it solved the problem. Cant believe all that noise was due to the pads being so worn down. Thanks for the replies though
