Title: Bike carbs *PHOTO CONTENT* *NOW WITH (not very good) VIDEOS*
Post by: ju571n on 18 July 2013, 08:36
So the poor chap being shouted at not to waste his money on his 8v has finally led me to putting some pics of this winters efforts on here for you to have a look at. I spent a lot of time making this work and have done all the work myself, apart from paint and setting the carbs.

I went against the grain and wasted my money on my 8v, it may only be making slightly more power then a 16v but it looks better, goes better and sounds amazing.

So enough jibber jabber, and q's just ask. Would to hear your thoughts!!

My 80yr old lady neighbour says it looks very shiny and should there be an engine under there.. Bless her.

Nearly makes all the hours in my freezing garage striiping all the seam sealer out of the bay worth it...

If any one else has carb'd a MK3 I'd love to see some pics...

:embarrassed: Thanks Wayne. As for the backwards step, I agree in theory. However if you'd drove the car before and after, or heard it idle or rev or start, there's no comparison. Carbs win. Slighty less economical, doesn't cut out at every set of lights, doesn't pop and fart like an old dog. I really have no complaints at all.

There's no denying that bay does look pretty darn cool.

Thanks buddy. I think it looks right. Couple of touches need sorting but its about done.

I'm sure you'll find someone willing to do it for you. Its not a difficult conversion! I would do it if i were a mechanic and had a proper workshop. Good luck mate.

This guys changed my view on 8vs, this is will desimate all dare i say will give a 16v a run for its life i bet, have you ever tried to chase a vr6 in this? by the looks of it i dont think its would let a vr6 get much far

I didn't take any systematic photos as I was going along, kind of had to make it all up as I went. I could give you a run down if you're serious about bike carbs. I'm no mechanic though, I can only offer you the knowledge I've gleaned from the years of tinkering.

My pal has a V6 vectra thats pushing 196 horses and cant live with it. My mate has a 59reg Astra diesel sri thats mapped to 187hp and he doesnt leave me till around 100mph.. I wouldnt imagine a 16v would be anywhere near and a vr6 would be a fun

So managed to get a couple of crappy vids last night. You'll have to excuse the banging and shaking due to the appalling roads near my house and my more then pants phone. I will get my mate to get some vids with his Iphone5 later on some better roads but gives you idea.

Enjoy.

PS sounds way better in real life.

Sure is dude. Got it built and 100 miles down the road 3 of the springs let go. To cut a long story short, after lots of calls to JNL and emails to techtonics and autotec in America I bought a new set of HD springs from autotec after about 2 months.

It now revs to around 8k with the new springs. Flows nicely, and I've port matched the inlet too. It gos pretty well.

Good news folks. I've typed the build thread up and uploaded my photos, I just need half hour to insert them all and then it'll be done. I'll post a link in here when it's done.

All those people asking about PMs, I will talk to you all this week. Been really busy at work doing well over 100 hrs.
