Title: Miltek fitting the standard exhaust??
Post by: MBCGTI on 18 July 2013, 04:19
Can anyone tell me whether a rear non resonated milltek back box for the standard exhaust or do you have to cut and weld it??

If you wanted to change only your rear silencer for a Milltek one then you'd need to cut your original but would require a reducer as there will be at least 1/4 inch difference in pipe diameter.

Well I was hoping that wouldn't be the answer. There is a rear box for sale on e at but can't justify spending money if that's the case.

your original zorst is in two sections, a milltek catback (with reducer) will replace the rear section, i cannot see why you would cut this

miltek rear sections are in two parts to reflect silencer options

The standard exhaust should be in 1 piece right to where it joins in the tunnel under the handbrake area.
The Milltek is usually a centre section then a rear section joining at the rear axle area.

This is the item thats for sale, I assume its quite a bit of work for not much increase??

Anythings possible but you'd need some additional pipework made to make it fit.
Some exhaust places could probably make you a pipe and fit it for £50 or so.
You'd gain a bit more noise without the rear silencer but no power gains.

I want it but can't justify that amount at the moment as potentially going to be selling it due to buying a project house. I'm tempted to get it remapped and an exhaust before I do albeit will probably make me keep it.

that is just the end section of the race system (without silencers), you can see from here what you are missing

test drove 2 cars with resonated milltek - absolutely no difference to standard IMO apart a slightly better note. i wouldnt waste my money on a resonated system on this car (unless your de-catting it as it will be louder without the cat)

non resonated is slightly louder and sounds much nicer and saves 10kg.

The chrome or black tailend bits are missing off that eBay sale aswell
Waste of money buying that IMO
It will not fit upto or onto the original exhaust without a lot of work,
And for no gain whatsoever, id get a full non res or keep your existing one
