That's what happens when a bit of some kind of debris locks the metal water pump up.
Would have just taken the impeller off a plastic one. Fitted for a reason. :whistle:

Ye wtf was floating about? Also im sure vw changed to a plastic wp?

It was some bit of fairly tough plastic. Can happen if the bearings seize which is more likely with metal too!

I got laughed at when I bought my OE waterpump,
Glad I did now

Nah was a customer that came to me after a break down. Only just bought the car too so warrenty job.

Because the water pump threw the cambelt and bent the valves I'd guess
