Title: Stereo had no b@lls
Post by: awp113 on 17 July 2013, 17:24
I didn't opt for stereo upgrade when I bought my Edition 35, then wished I had. It was OK, but couldn't handle bass at all. Took myself of to see Ian @ Leeds Car Audio to sort it out.

Was adamant I didn't want a sub in boot - too intrusive and didn't want to bounce down the road. Needless to say I ended up with this.

OK, so it's not small but not that big. He told me to trust him on sound and I was not disappointed. Sounds amazing for not a lot of money. If you've had enough of lame stereo and want a simple upgrade, I recommend this.

You can have bouncing car or just nice solid base. A simple plug to take it out if need boot space.

The standard speakers on my MK5 weren't anything to shout about.

I've got Dynaudio and it's definitely an upgrade over standard but it can lack bass at times.

It was £265 all in.

£250 for sub and fitting
£15 for additional cable required.

All steering wheel and stereo functions are unaffected.

He rates this hertz stuff and I have to agree it sounds good.

Hey pal,

I appreciate that's its not the biggest sub in the world but seems just right for me too i.e. just enough bass etc. Have you noticed any vibrations from the exterior ?

Simonpolly - you can still access tools OK with sub in place. If you need to actually take out spare wheel you need to lift sub out. It is no different to lifting out a box though. One very simple cable to unclip and the. Lift it out

REDHP - at the level I have the base there is very little vibration. Golfs are so well hung together that in the few weeks I have it in there, I have not noticed any rattles or vibrations developing. Don't get my wrong, this is still powerful enough to get the car shaking , but I just wanted a good, solid base tone without the horrible flat distortion you get from standard stereo.

The one thing I will say is that is does make your rear view mirror shake. Makes it difficult to see perfectly behind you. I never really worried too much about that anyway

For me this did exactly what I wanted. 100% satisfied.

Any more questions, happy to answer.

Here's a photo of the plug you need to unclip to remove the sub.

Sounds good

My BMW shakes the rear view mirror, has a great sound from the business speaker upgrade and this is what I want to replicate in the Golf, a strong and full sound.

From your review this sounds perfect, just need to find someone in the Herts/Beds area...

Not a bad looking little box that. I'm putting this in mine in a couple weeks time for the same desired effect.

I think the front speaker upgrade is a good idea too.

Now that's a better job.
