Title: Buying a Forge FMIC
Post by: oceanic-green on 17 July 2013, 11:24
I am meeting a guy tomorrow near me (he is driving up from Kent to Dorset) to buy a Forge FMIC off him with most of the pipe work for my !.8t golf. As I have never seen one up close before, are there any warning signs I should look out for on the intercooler tha may suggest it is damaged. The bloke seems very keen for me to have it and would not post it, hence he offered to drive up to me. I am buying it for £175 + £50 diesel money for his trip, which I will pay for cash on collection.

Have you got any pictures of it? That's a very good price.

Here you go mate. To be honest, I thought it was a good price too, just a bit concerned that the intercooler may not be 100%

Might be a Forge core but the pipework is DIY

Yeah, he said it was. The bit of pipe that is missing is the bit that goes into the turbo. Where can I get one of them. I presume it would have to have the two pipe connections that go to the DV and the N75

I have never seen a forge one that shape I'm afraid! The forge ones usually have the inlet and outlet on the same side?

Doubt it's a forge! They north come out on the left and come with a crash bar

As the others have said it doesn't look like a forge cooler and the pipework looks pretty shoddy :undecided:

He says it is an S3 one! I got to say it does look like an S3 Forge intercooler, but I have decided to not take a chance on it. So thanks for all your input guys, you were all quite helpful

Just got to decide what I am going to buy now  :undecided: maybe a Toyosports!

Darkside developments will soon be selling a 1.8T intercooler kit, it uses the same twin pass core as THS intercoolers and comes with all pipework including replacement pancake pipe. Fitment should be excellent and no pipework will be on show.

They will be fitting this to my car as a demo sometime in the next couple of weeks so I'll be posting up pics when its on the car. It will probably be priced at around £475 so comes in a bit cheaper than THS kits and a lot cheaper than the Forge ones.
