Title: Differences between CDA & DPA code 02A gearboxes?
Post by: thai-wronghorse on 16 July 2013, 23:12
I'm currently collecting up parts for my 16v whilst I'm incapacitated with a broken shoulder,   one of the next main jobs that I want done is to have my new clutch and lightened flywheel fitted.
Seeing as the gearbox is coming off I thought it would be good idea to replace it with a lower mileage one seeing as they can be be picked very cheaply these days plus I could spruce it up with paint etc ready for a quick exchange.
I've just sourced  one  on ebay locally but it's a CDA code box,  IIRC mine is a DPA (need to double check tomorrow ). From what I understand they share the same ratios and the CDA was on earlier 16v's and fazed out after 96 and replaced with the DPA... What I'd like to know is why exactly,  are the DPA boxes more reliable,  did they change the oil capacity or something?

I can't find that box code on the list I have... the early box is listed as a CGN fitted till 93 and then the CDA till 96

there's a list on my website with ratio's etc

From what  I've learnt the DPA was used on cars after 96 like mine,  I'm just curious to know what the changes (if any) entailed?

My recently rebuilt box is a DPA. And mine came standard with one on MY97 car.  There may be a slight difference. That would be the bottom bush underneath the shifter. They come in different sizes. And fitting an 02j may need the bush changing to match. Ratios are the same as mentioned.
