Title: GTD Demonstrator Spotted in Wishaw (ML1)
Post by: mackandmark on 14 July 2013, 20:26
Was out looking for a new used car for my wife this afternoon & stumbled on this.
Not the greatest photo's as the car was pretty much still in it's wrapper but good to see one in pure white (in need of a good detail!!)

Not sure who else has any GTD demonstrator's in the country??? (Apart from one in Chesterfield)

Those wheels are very V10 R8.  Although I can't see much of the calipers, they do look a painted flat grey as opposed to the cast-alloy look of my dad's GTD calipers.

Nice looking motor, not sold on those wheels though and don't get why you can't have the sunroof with them!?

I think if they didn't have the thin black spokes, I'd like them more, but, as they are I don't rate them anywhere close to the standard 18s.  Nice car overall though, really looks good in white.

I really like the alloys

Reason you can't have with the sunroof I believe is due to the axle weight of the two combined being over the VW limit. (Not sure why though)

takes you into a new road tax bracket because of the increase in co2's

Bizarre !

Even more bizarre is the fact that the 5 door GTD DSG pushes out more CO2 than the 3 door (and sits in a higher tax bracket)! Yet in the GTI they are exactly the same. I can not fathom it

Lovely pics of the three door GTD with Santiago's. If they weren't so expensive I would have specced them.

Is it not more to do with the harsher ride on 19"s affecting the functionality of the sunroof when it is extending/retracting?

Amazing photos, thank you for posting! Santiagos look huge and as others have stated, wouldn't fancy cleaning them  Really looking forward to my car now with the standard Nogaro wheels (which I like better) and the panoramic sunroof which will look amazing in pure white

I don't think that is true, the 3 and 5 dr both give out 109g/km

3 and 5 door manual give out 109g CO2 on a GTD (both £20 tax disc), 3 door DSG GTD gives 119g CO2 (£30 tax disc), 5 door DSG gives 122g CO2 (£105 tax disc).

I do wonder whether the gearing on a 5 door DSG GTD is a smidge lower than 3 door because the 30kg extra weight of 5 doors and the 17kg of DSG would've compromised the performance by 0.1s vs the manual or something daft like that. The 3 door DSG GTD is 4.5% more fuel efficient than the 5 door DSG GTD, that can't all be down to the 30kg of additional weight a 5 door variant has over a 3 door variant.

Still £30 tax ain't to be sniffed at!

I'm with you mcmaddy... if you spec a C series with 18's the co2 grouping changes

Hi Drisser

VW told me that 19" alloys and sunroof put the vehicle weight into a higher ved bracket due to
increased weight / emissions!!

I ordered mine from arnold clark linwood back in April and they can't get me one anywhere to drive!
Seemingly their demos are all "in the showroom" and can't be driven.

I made My feelings known to the salesman and I'm not at all impressed to be honest!!
Surely one taxed and ready GTD should be available at least at one dealer?

Agree totally. It's big money were spending, not an £8k UP! I booked a test drive earlier in the week based on this info from Arnold Clark and the VW website said the closest dealership with a GTD was Dundee. Took a drive up there for my 2pm slot today and .... Wait for it .... No car! The sales manager has taken it on holiday for the next 2 weeks. That was a 140 mile completely wasted journey!!!! Whats the point in booking a test drive????? rant over!! Most on here seem to have had a test drive and I can't get one for love nor money!!

That Is shocking!!!

I understand the flip side of it as I sold cars for a long time for a prestige brand. As a salesman I wouldn't be taking a customer out on a drive if they had bought a car at another dealer... I would only test drive my customers. Thus if my customer wanted a test drive I would find one in group and bring it to my dealer for my customer to drive. (Arnold shark don't seem to have ANY to drive)

It's that supplying dealers job to get you a car to drive and I get on great with my salesman partly because he knows I won't take any BS, but my patience is wearing thin, especially as I called VW the other day to check on my delivery week, they promised they'd call me straight back and didn't!! I commented that the service from VW/AC has been very poor compared to my previous purchases with Merc and BMW.

I hope you kicked up a serious stink and lodged a complaint with VWUK.  Don't let them get away with it.  You'll want compensation for time and expense incurred too I imagine.  These "salesmen" are utter bastards and would not have a job if I had anything to say about it.  See if you can get VW to sack them.

Don't judge all salesmen. That's me out of selling cars now and in FMCG. Getting out of car sales was so hard as people judge us all the same. Many salesmen are rogues but there were lots of us doing a good job and offering great service. I use,d to get cards and gifts from customers and plenty of repeat business!

I worked in a few dealerships and tried hard to keep my morals and standards but managers often encouraged the badness that exists. Most managers have been salesmen and to sell a load of cars they need to cut each others throats, bend the truth and generally be pretty selfish and ruthless!

It's not a trade I'd rush back into in a hurry!!
