Just had this drop on the mat.
Good to see a nice review of the basic car in manual form. Overall it gets 4.5 starts with + for Balance, Torque and Style and - " you can't brag about the power"
Overall a very positive review, they comment on not getting near 47mpg, I think we all know that will be true !
Good comments about thye chassis control on british roads and that it feels "stonkingly quick" and " Other hot hatches should understimate the GTi at their peril"
I think we trust EVO's judgement better than some autocar nobby.

How many pages is the article drisser, worth buying at non subscriber price?

Cheers for the heads up Drisser. Sounds like its gets a great review.
Has there been a single review yet of a proper vanilla GTI? One without ACC or PP? This is what Ive ordered and am keen to see what they say.
-
Its only a one pager in the " driven" section. Maybe someone can scan it
The car they tested had ACC but no other options I think. I guess the way the article ended there is a big group test coming up in the next month or 2, should be good reading..
I was disappointed they didn't say the PP is a no brainer though ! :lipsrsealed:

You could photograph it and post for us all to read

Seems like every test car comes with ACC (DCC)... and most/all demos have it too?
You might read into this that VW believe ACC/DCC is a fair improvement over standard set up and want everyone to see the car with that setup. This option more than any other seems to be put on all the tests/demos...
Or I might be reading too much into this (as usual)

Or maybe they think they have it because the button is there, but really they are just confused?!
-
Christ I hope I don't end up regretting not specifying ACC. As Bear says every review car has it on and the test drive car I drove had it also. Grrrr

likewise ! Its the one option I am still sitting on the fence about... but am convinced I will get more pleasure out of the sunroof than pressing the Sport button a few times a year... IM sure the standard set up without ACC is a good compromise..
-
The standard ride in the non-ACC equipped car is fine. My MK7 GTI feels similar to my old MK6 GTD (but much better on the bends than that car was) and it is definitely smoother than my old MKV GTI. The improved interior quality (less noise, etc) might have a lot to do with that though.
If you've owned a MKV/VI and/or you are used to large alloy / firm suspension setups, then you have nothing to worry about. In fact I really dislike soft suspension, so I've no doubt that if I did spec ACC I'd always have it in Sport / Normal mode, therefore for me it would be a total waste of money IMO.
-
Honestly I really doubt anyone will miss PP or DCC or ever notice a difference should they try them out. I spec'd them, but I'm an idiot. Like a fool I caved to the marketing and not wanting to feel my car was inferior. Will be nice to press the buttons though.
So I wouldn't worry about it.

I thought we all agreed PP was a no brainer though !? :lipsrsealed:

It is!

My heart agrees its a no brainer.
My head knows its a no brainer... i.e. not worth it! :lipsrsealed:

I'm with you on that one Bill. How often will you be in a situation where you will actually notice the difference in reality? Come to think about it, how many will believe they can feel the difference just because they've read what the magazine road testers make up?

Or maybe VW make a large profit on ACC and think by all the reviews mentioning it works well that everyone will order it. I'd just leave mine in sport all the time so would be a waste of money for me.

Fair point and likely correct, but I know if I didn't have it I would want it. Plus on resale it should be a buyers incentive IMO

I think they sold a fair few due to this (mine included).

I really liked it in the mk6, the mk7 though is a big improvement.
Normal is just fine - until you try the other modes.

I couldn't really notice any difference on my test drive. Though admittedly they only gave me about 10-15minutes (was supposed to be only 6 according to the sales dude ) so its not like I had a chance to test it properly.
I'll take your word for it and look forward to a proper test when my car (eventually) arrives!
