Have you ever had the front bumper off? There's a sensor on the catch which shows the echo that you have checked/filled the oil and unless that knows the bonnets been open the light won't go off.

My old 2.0 mk4 did this, It was the oil sensor in the sump that was fooked.

It used to say 'Oil Workshop' when 1st started.

You can get new sensors for £30

Bonnet catch is for alarm and heads to convenience module.   AFAIK, they are not linked as oil level sensor goes through car-engine loom plug T14a straight to the clocks.

no mate, they just stop working. Mine went after 94,000 miles, so it aint done bad. I had it vag com remove the message. Its only for oil level, just make sure you check your dipstick .

disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, if it cures it then your bonnet switch isn't working. if it doesn't cure it then its either time for an oil change and new sensor, or you might get under there and see broken wires its always worth following the loom up as far as you can see. Pop the plastic shielding off and take a look.

or you could just disable the warning with vagcom and use the dipstick weekly like we're all supposed to

I had the battery out the other week for a while because i had to sort my starter motor out and that didnt fix it, also i had a look at the wiring to check it wiring was good but it was unpluged, pluged it back in still the same, i think ill order a new 1 now and try that see if that works it hasnt long had an oil change but im going to do it again because of the amount of miles a week i do, just out of interest what oil would u recommend?
