Title: N&P Martins VW of Camberley
Post by: Champagne on 11 July 2013, 20:46
I placed my GTi order with this dealer in April. I rang them last week for a test drive & discovered they'd recorded my e-mail address wrong so I didn't know when the demo car had arrived or that my build week had gone back 6 weeks. This wasn't actually a problem as due to an existing lease I didn't want the car til Sept/Oct.
Due to this "inconvenience", they have now added the £980 performance pack option to my order FOR FREE! On top of my negotiated -£750 discount.
They do know I'm a member of this forum so maybe were hoping for a shout out, so here it & well deserved too!

I think VW are very concerned about their customer service in the UK.

What a fantastic way to make up for their mistake.

Result

please tell me your joking? VW couldn't care less about uk customers and will have had nothing to do with the addition of pp. it'll be all down to the dealer. good result but nowt to do with VW UK

The follow up calls I've had over the last few days tell me that they are concerned.

They know they can improve and are trying to.

I don't particularly want to rain on your parade, but if you have a chance to cancel that order, I would. You should be getting up to (and perhaps over) 11% or £3000 discount. Try ordering through drive the deal....

problem with cancelling now means no delivery this year. guaranteed trade in is equating to a decent real term discount so no point cancelling.

Most of the big discounts are coming hand-in-hand with a large optional spec list. Seems like VW dealers have far more leeway to give discount on additionally specced cars.

For a vanilla order you might not realise big discounts, or your p/x value may suffer as a result. I've only saved £800 on my GTD on paper (with freebies), but by the time I get mine, the overly generous fixed p/x arranged at the end of March means that at time of order completion i'll get £1700 more p/x than I would've otherwise expected (£1700 more than Glass' say it's worth) - thats a "fair" £2500 discount as far as i'm concerned. Cost to change is my biggest concern - i've had poor p/x prices and broker discounts before, they usually rob Peter to pay Paul. Gotta be aware of what's right for both ends of the deal.

Aye, but assuming a fixed p/x, your car will have depreciated about £500 in that delay time for no extra cost to you, could be an extra 2 payments off your settlement price on the Scirocco, all money saved.

They know they can improve and are trying to.

I echo this with my experience once I'd escalated to the appropriate level.  I got regular updates, even if it was just to apologise for the lack of actual progress.

point is though you/we shouldn't be having to escalate anything at all. if vw had done a proper job in the first place they wouldn't have had any phone calls from any of us.

If they ring you with updates, rather than you ring them,  they don't press the "add 1 week to order" button.

Seriously though, if they have a car that is selling more than it's quota/allocation - let the paying public get their cars first rather than churning out unallocated demos. Most people going to a VW dealership now to check out and order a GTI or GTD will now be waiting until nigh-on Christmas for it, that'll piss a lot of potential new customers off.
