Title: Boost Gauge Question?
Post by: markallen on 11 July 2013, 18:00
So I have just fitted a boost gauge. My questions are what should it be on idle and what should the range be when accelerating, it's a standard AUM if this makes any difference? Mine idles at 1 and goes down past the 1.5 mark. this is the pressure, it also has vaccum on the other side?? :/ Thanks in advance.

You should show -30 at idel and a standard engine usally boosts between 5-10psi

I will show a couple of pictures as I have never fitted or played with one before ha ha.

This is on idle

And this is when revved.

It's only a cheap boost gauge. What is the dial on the left for?

That can't be set up right. On idle the needle should pull to the left (vacuum) like niño said anywhere between 20-30 psi (you will have to convert this to psi). When stationary and reving it will climb upto a max of zero. And then when accelerating so the turbo is under load it will then move to the right to show the boost pressure.

Like niño said again it will boost up to around 9 (peak) and settle around 7ish.

Your guage is in bar like mine. On idle it should be -0.6 then on full boost for standard engine it goes to 0.5/0.6.
Where did you tap into for the vac pipe feed to the guage?

Tapping the FPR is the way most do it but I've also seen it being tapped I'm the DV line too. Technically either will do just fine but OP yours is definately wrong somewhere along the line.

I followed the link on here for fitting and I connected it to this as shown? (http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx159/marka22/059E8AEA-946E-440F-B062-C242E2F1DB4E-2754-000001F85433BD4A_zps1d412fde.jpg)

Since I posted this I stripped the gauge down and now on idle it sits at -.6 I think I got lucky with the -.6 as I just left it at that and then read the replies on here ha ha. Cheers guys

Sorted :)

Are you sure the vac line on that goes into the car and connects to the gauge hasn't been crushed or pinched anywhere as this would stop the needle dropping to where it should be as its holding the vac in the line.

Retrace the line and make sure its not trapped or crushed anywhere.

EDIT: Just read you have now sorted it so ignore the above post.

Get some 3mm I.D. Silicone hose off eBay. You can get around 3 metres for under 10quid it'll work much better than the hose that gets supplied eight your kit.
