The pneumatic standard system on the mk2 is shoddy. Would it be possible to retro fit an entire lock system off a passat or something. Anything really. I desperately want remote locking but the motor has broken twice.
-
The air system is superior and silent. Nothing worse than having a mk2 with noisy electric central locking.
The electric solenoid shouldn't break. All it's doing is moving the main air actuator to trigger the boot pump.
Whats happened to it?

Just rip it out, get rclick kit in there and be done with it.
1 seconds worth of noise is worth having a remote I think on a 20+ year old car.

Problem is you lose the petrol cap lock. Keep the OE system and add another solenoid in the drivers door for remote locking. Easy :nerd:

Now I get what the op was trying to do in another thread lol. I didn't get it.

Pneumatic is ok, but in a passat for example it's got a solenoid in the two front doors and the boot allowing you to unlock the whole car from 3 spots. The mk2 system only allows the central locks to be done off the drivers door and my lock is sticky. Takes some effort and wiggling to actually lock or unlock the car. If I could ditch the key and just have a remote then life would be easier.

maybe that's why your remote aint working right. because lock is sticky in which case I would remove it clean it all up and oil it well. then try again with the remote thing.

Any tips for cleaning the lock mechanism. Take it off and leave it submerged in something overnight. The thing is filthy. Means it requires a lot more force to move it than it otherwise should

Just ordered a 5 wire motor of rclick which I didn't know existed. This means that I don't need a motor and switch. Also lets me plug the motor in the best location for maximum leverage. Just to make it easier also going to take the lock mechanism off today and clean it with petrol, the relube it with lock grease. This should work great now, just wait for it to arrive next week.
