Does anyone know if, when the Automatic coming/leaving home lighting function is activated, it's the front DRL's that are activated? Also, if so, do the LED fog lights also come on? If the DRL's and fog lights are activated, this would look awesome imo

Dipped beam on the xenons, no fogs.
-
VAGCOM will be our friend it its not the standard set up
-
Thank you... I think VW missed an opportunity here, dipped beams seems a bit naff really. I'll have to get to understand VAGCOM... think I might be wanting to use it

Hi mate, congrats on the new ride! 8) Does the new one work like the mk5? Or do you still need to flash the lights on exit to get the coming home lights to come on like he mk6?
-
Flash required, unless there is a setting somewhere to change it. I'll look again tomorrow.
The manual is very thick and on such a high tech piece of kit like this I'm going to read it - all.
Just seen the Xenon dance

Thats great mate thanks! Have a look if you can disable the headlamp washers as well? Apparently it washes on the first and then every fifth screenwash! :'(
-
I love it when my Xenons dance, to see it on the 7 GTI is going to be awesome thanks buddy

Headlamp washers will probably be a fuse like the mk6. (36?)
Yes, they do splash the whole front of the car, OK for today as it has a million dead bugs on it anyway.
-
Why can't there just be a button to activate the washers if and when they are needed?
-
Safety for other drivers I suppose, dirty Xenons are bad Xenons.
Saying that, mine will be switched off at the first opportunity, wastes gallons of screen wash too.
-
Yes that's the way the washers work, same as mk6. They can be disabled via vag com but as per a previous post of mine, I tried vag com on mine today and it didn't work. Nothing available for these ECU's yet it seems.

Joe, did your friend try the Beta 12.10 version of the software, as on Ross Tech's website, its mentioned that there is specific support for the MQB/MK7 platform which just isn't there on the "standard" 11.11.6 version ?

This might seem like a daft question, but why are dirty xenons bad xenons, but it's OK for normal halogen lights to remain unwashed?
-
Because Xenons are focused through a lens type reflector rather than the open reflector systems used by most halogen lamps and are much brighter than halogen, and if the lights are very dirty, it causes light scatter blinding on coming traffic.

Yes, he had that beta version. Connection worked, just no settings could be tweaked.

Is this why headlight washers are mandatory with a Xenon setup?

Yes.

And why cars with Xenons sometimes seem to be coming at you with full beams.
