Title: Mk4 won't start
Post by: Kelvin1977 on 09 July 2013, 18:52
  Wife was driving my 2002 golf 20V Turbo today and dash board lit up like EPC, Engine management engine was still running but lost power steering, brakes, but was still running !!! She coasted it into a car park and left it for 10 and was fine. When I got home scanned it got 16486 and 17609 cleared them drove it no probs. As I pulled on the drive it cut out and now will not start only code its showing is 16486. I have unplugged the MAF is it the same as a AGU that by unplugging the MAF it will revert to a set air flow ? Or is the AUM different ?

Have you got a description of the codes? Sounds like a dodgy crank sensor...

16706 Ignition/distributor engine speed input circuit- No Signal
16486 Mass or Volume air flow circuit low input

I cleared the codes and 16706 came back
