Title: GTI 16v Oil in Expansion Tank
Post by: GeordieChap on 08 July 2013, 20:35
Hi
Just wondered if someone could point me in the right direction, have recently replaced cylinder head with a completely refurbished one, new head gasket, fitted new oil cooler, new hoses, (except one from bottom of expansion tank), started the car tonight after a little bit of effort and have a little oil in the expansion tank, probs about 0.5mm floating on top of antifreeze, oil level seems fine but will check again in the morning. Is this to be expected? Any help, suggests would be greatly appreciated.

hi yeah that's quite normal to have a bit of oil gradually working its way up to header tank. mix up a good dollop of hand cleaner and warm water and stick that in the cooling system for a week then flush it out with clean water. don't use hand cleaner that's to gritty though.
