Hi everyone, I have had a problem with my car for the past 3 weeks. When idling at traffic lights it has started to judder a little every now and then. I got a fault code reader and got the error code 17705 which I believe indicates a boost leak. I'm not sure how to go about finding and fixing it as I am a complete novice to working on cars. I have a couple of photos if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated. The car is completely stock btw.

check for any split pipes under there or have a garage look for you :smiley:

Had a good look earlier but haven't managed to find anything suspicious. Really wanting to manage to find this one without taking it to the garage, both for the satisfaction and being a student to keep costs down.

The easiest way to check for boost leaks is with a smoke test, but not all garrages have the equipment for this. A smoke test cost me £25.
Or if you want to search yourself, then there a few places that you can't see by just looking at the picture where there could be a leak. The pcv pipes under the inlet manifold are renown for boost leaks, but you will have to take the metal bit off the front of the inlet manifold to get descent access and while you are there check the pipes underneath the metal bit that the oil dipstick is on.
There is also the pipes to the intercooler from the charge pipe that goes behind the drivers side front wheel. Also the tip and anything that comes off the tip.
There are diagrams of the pcv pipes and brake and boost pipes somewhere on here or on google images.

Check the recirculating valve aint packed in.. and also the pipe running from the intercooler to the throttle body.. as said you ned to just have eyes like a hawk and check everything.

You have an AUM engine, these engines are known for this code, it is also known as a "ghost code" which means the car thinks it has this error when it does not. I too have the same engine and I too have this code pop up alot, however I am starting to think I have the "ghost code" problem. Because I have changed almost everything and I mean everything related to this code.
The only way to remove the code is a ecu software update, IF it is ghost code related.
The most common places the AUM leak are..
* That big metal pipe at the back is called a charge pipe. Half way down behind the engine, the metal pipe meets a rubber hose, now the AUM engine uses a "C" clip design to meet the two pipe which commonly leaks, beat way to check is to get the car jacked up on the drivers side, remove the drivers wheel and get yourself underneath, look at the join of the rubber pipe and the charge pipe. If you have a leak you should see oil deposits around the join, also chevk that rubber pipe for splits. While your there follow that rubber pipe and it will meet whats called the "pancake pipe" check the join there then follow again you will meet the "sandwhich pipe" I think u get the idea here...
* Next you want to inspect all the rubber pipes on the top on the charge pipe, follow the pipe they go to many places, follow them all and check, remove the pipes if you have too.
* Check the "Y" shape pipe that is connected to the right hand side of your rocker cover, it connects to a "Hockey puck" type device, it commonly splits underneath so you will have to remove it.
* Check your diverter valve, make sure that is not leaking, search the forum or google how to chevk DV for leaks.
Any tubber pipe, check it, the most common sign of a leak in an area is old oil around the area, also your shudder will most probably be your TB (it was with mine as mine did the same) pull your TB off, buy some carb cleaner and give it a really good clean, search the how to section of how to clean your TB, also dnt worry about alining the TB, AUM's allin themselves.

easiest way to check for a boost leak - other than a smoke test - look for OIL, boost leaks leak oil but as the others have said main places are under the inlet manifold and the one that is behind the drivers wheel for the Intercooler.

Awesome thanks guys for all your help. sorry it took so long to respond :embarrassed: Going to get the car serviced, turns out the timing belt is due and since I haven't owned the car for long wanted to get it all checked over. Do you know if the throttle body cleaning is normally included in a service?

No it isn't mate, but its dead easy to do, or if ask the garage will do it for a charge of around £50-£60.
Have a look here, and remember as you have an AUM engine you don't need to worry about realigning :)
