Title: Car question - new brake discs and pads - squealing. Do i just need to run in?!
Post by: marty600 on 06 July 2013, 15:31

Hiya all,

My 1st post on forum! 8)

Hope you can help advise

I had new front brake discs and pads put onto my golf mk5 during my recent service.

Driven 15 miles around town during week, then drove 150 miles on motorways to visit mum. I now find the new brake discs and pads squealing, when I come near to a stop, after been driving around for a bit.

Never had brake discs changed on a car before! So not sure what to expect.

Do the new discs and pads need to just run in?! How long should I leave it, before I go back to garage?!

Hope you can advise

Cheers
Martin

Hi and welcome. Its not uncommon for new discs and pads to squeal during bedding in. Aslong as its only apparent at very low speed it will be fine and should sort itself out.

I would give it 500 miles. if not quiet by then take it back to garage. had same problem at work with a punto recently so fitted a different brand of pads. no word back yet.
