Title: how to paint the strips on mk6 grill?

Decided to paint the strips on my GTD's grill. Been told that it would be hard to paint them as they are already chrome and the new paint wont stick on to that?

Any suggestions as to how and with what products I can paint them? I am complete novice and the closest thing i've done to this is painting my coloring book when I was 5 years old
