Title: Smoking engine!!!
Post by: Ozz on 12 August 2005, 15:16
Ok, so I was just refilling the oil in my engine, and because of the terribly designed pouring spout on the oil bottle (and my laziness at not going to get a funnel) I got quite a lot on the engine. Just started the engine up to make sure shes ok, drove down the road and the car started filling up with smoke, drove back and opened the bonnet and lots of smoke coming from around the engine. Temp readings on guages all as normal so I'm guessing it is just the spilt oil, whats the best way to deal with it?

Steam clean it if you can, pretty much any other cleaning method either wont shift the oil or will leave residue that will smoke off as well!

Its probably the oil that got onto the downpipe that is smoking, so if you can clean that off as best you can then run it on the drive till it stops smoking basically :)
