I have a Mk5 GT TDI 170 2006 & in low revs/ 2nd gear/3rd gear/ accelerating I get this jerking/ misfire for a second or two & it feels like the engine cuts out momentarily. It doesn't happen all the time -I don't get anything for a week & then it reappears. It's still under warranty. Any thoughts as to what it could be please - URGENT!! I also have a whooshing sound on the front wheels -sounds like a wheel bearing gone, but it's not as they have been checked-could someone point me in the direction of what it could be- Urgent going in garage Friday 5th

170 engines from that era suffer from injector problems - there was a recall on them but I don't think it was publicised that much - make sure you get all 4 replaced under warranty and not just the faulty one or you will be in the same position when the others start to fail.

Is it manual or DSG?
And im not 100% sure, but does the 170 have the same boost valve that is prone to splitting as the GTI, causing a bad woosh noise....

Nope. We don't have such shoody things fitted to our engines
Deffo get the injectors replaced but also try cleaning out the EGR valve; that gets clogged up and can cause stuttering
Whoosing noise could be a boost leak

Thanks guys for info - had the injectors replaced December last year on re-call so sounds like EGR valve. It's going in the garage on Friday so I'll let you all know the outcome

Hey,
Any news on the EGR valve? I keep getting the jerking motion you mentioned. I'd be interested to know if you managed to get it sorted and how much you had to fork out for it.
Fingers crossed you sorted it.
