cv joint, which direction do you turn when it happens?.
-
both, mainly right though, would a cv cause knocking though?
-
a worn cv joint can normally sound like a train on a track - clickety clack - train on a track - clickety clack train on a track - clickety clack - train on a track - clickety clack train on a track - clickety clack - train on a track - clickety clack train on a track - clickety clack - train on a track - clickety clack

yeah could be a cv. have a look at your cv boots to see if any are split. they rarely fail unless they lose their grease.
-
previously checked this and the cv boot was fine, anyhow i took it off and chucked some more grease in there anyway. still knocking though
-
Also when turning sometimes it doesn't make a sound, then couple days later it will knock.
-
if its knocking while your turning the steering it could be a partially seized strut top bearing.
-
Can be wheel bearing when you turn puts load that side car. Does it happen both way you turn?
-
Jack the car up and grab hold of the driveshaft and try to rotate it, there should be minimal amount of play in it.
-
next time it happens try spraying some wd40 on the front strut piston rods see if that clears it. had a problem like that on a jag once. took ages to find it. shocker was sticking.
