Gotta change clutch on my 8 valve ( been putting it off for last 12 months ) so while it's off I'm going to change the crank seal. do I have to take off the sump to remove the oil seal housing or can the old seal be popped out and new one pressed in without removing the housing.

Change the seal and housing together as a unit. If you buy the genuine item it comes with a shield to fit it 'n' everything. Gearbox off, clutch off, couple of bolts out of the sump and the housing and pull the old one off. Make sure the new assembly and end of the crank is scrupulously clean when it goes together.

Thanks for your reply
Turned into a big job now
Got a refurbed cylinder head to go on so gonna do that at the same time and change all the oil seals while I'm at it
Going to take engine and box out together and do it on the bench
