Just looked at the description for the new Top Gear episode tonight on BBC2 at 8pm and it says Hammond is test driving the 3 new hot hatchbacks of the year. Although it doesn't mention the GTI directly I have a feeling it may be 1 of the 3?

Think it's the Fiesta ST vs 208 GTI vs Clio Renaultsport

B0llocks, got all excited then.
They only ever do 1 hot hatch review per series so no GTI this series then - annoying

Gutted! Are you just guessing at that? I really thought the GTI would be in! Leader of hot hatches for years!
-
Yes you're right. Just found it on the BBC website :( Bah! Sorry guys!
-
Personally think the MK7 Golf GTI would have more than held it's own based on what we know and what just seen on Top Gear.
Actually like the Fiesta ST in exterior looks, the grill in particular but not really like either the Clio or 208 much exterior or interior, particularly the 208 as hardly any subtlety at all!
As for all the data and graphs in Clio! *vomit*
I know it's a track and that is the 'fun' bit everyone goes on about but not sure on a UK road I would think my rear wheel lifting is fun?! Be interesting to see if they got the Golf GTI to lift in such a way?
Hopefully they do get the Golf GTI on test though as be interesting to see what say as they gave the MK6 9/10 and "Overall verdict: An epically good car. Probably all the vehicle you’ll ever need." and the MK7 7/10 "More than ever, the Golf is all things to all men and women. But in hitting every target, it denies you deep driving satisfaction"
Which sort of contradicts most people thinking/view that MK7 improves on MK6?

Quite frankly I would have been annoyed and embarrassed if they had pitched the Golf against these cars. Totally different league of hot hatch

Of the 3 the Fiesta was the better car. But I'm not 12 so I wouldn't touch any of those cars - all

Clarkson must have a gti this week looking at his latest tweet !!!

I think you're right!!

Might just be a standard golf?

Could be. But given Top Gear's penchant for test driving 'proper' cars I'm keeping my fingers crossed its the GTI. Mind you, could be the GTD....

Aye, get back in your hair dressers car! (the TT)

May as well be a SMART Car - He done 8 miles in an hour! so he maybe be able to review the sound system and the Traffic Distance Control but not much performance wise ;)
Can see a predictable review, too civilised blah blah and etc
-
I think you might be my Scottish brother from another mother Craig, I was gonna make the same joke about the GTD, we are accountants - and both drive a TT....spooky!

Posted a picture of a MK7 dashboard showing his mpg or something in London traffic.

Ok thanks Joe

It is a review if the GTI that Clarkson is doing according to his latest tweet
-
Does anyone know what the button he is talking about does? "Auto Hold" it says. Has changed his already written review apparently.
-
Looks like its the HOLD button.
I imagine he spends most of the review whinging about some trivial feature, probably the electric parking brake in this case.
The review is probably for his Sunday Times column rather than top gear I'd imagine? If so, there'll be a paragraph on the car and 2 pages of inane waffle before that.
-
MK5 GTI Launch was the best Top Gear coverage given.
-
I'm pretty sure it won't be shown on the TV but could be in the Times yeah. A while back I looked for a list of cars TG were reviewing this series and the GTI wasn't on it. Not sure if they bring stuff in unannounced, but they'd have to bump something else then and I'm guessing they can't do that as they'd have agreed to the review with the manufacturer in order to get the cars.
