Title: any ideas ?
Post by: welshdean on 29 June 2013, 22:11
I still havnt got to the bottom of the strange noise I've come across when starting the car from cold but now I've discovered another strange noise.
It happens when the car is under load. When I'm travelling in 5th gear and have to slow down to around 25-30 mph and have to accelerate off again, there is kind of an air leaking noise as though there may well be a tiny hope in the exhaust of something similar, it's not overly loud but you can certainly here it with the windows down.
Is this normal or is something f**ked ?

here is the strange noise ive found lately on a cold start in the morning, once the car is warm it does not make the noise anymore.

p.s.... ignore the first ( goose ) noise as i know thats my starter motor, but the noise im talking about is the weird squeek sort of noise or more like a load of locusts in my bonnet.

can anybody please tell me what it could be as i cant find where its coming from

Dean, Obviously we know your starter motor is buggered and at my first guess I would say that sounds your getting is the wheel on the alternator e.g bearing are going? get some WD40 and blast the wheel ONLY THE WHEEL of the alternator if it stops? im a right cocky tit

strip your starter down, clean it up and pack the epicyclic gears with some grease. Should sort it out.
