i'm running a standard exhaust with a drilled air box and an piper cam and I added magacor Ht leads (only cos they're blue). i'd like to get a bit more go out of it even though i've had 127mph out of it. Is it worth buying a vernier pulley on? Also is a 4 branch TSR manifold worth the ?240?
cheers m'dears

the manifold is worth having - better low end reponse.
Vernier not much point - unless you like fiddling with your engine.
Your top speed won't go much higher due to aerodynamics . . . . .
How fast do you want from a 1.8 980kilo brick?
-
what cam you fitted?
264?
go for a 280 or a 300 - if you want more grunt higher up

the TSR manifold does give good gains, but
if you get the TSR manifold you will need to get vibratechnic engine mounts or else it will crack the manifold with it being made of stainless steal
also, you car will have a really tinny sound from the manifold those this can be dampened down with exhaust wrap, but this just makes the exhaust hotter further down which can lead to other implications
do Janspeed not do a mild steel manifold for golfs?

Piper do one Gambit. Also in the 4in round pipe I want too. There's stainless or mild steel. Which should I got for?
I need new engine mounts anyway so I may aswell buy those vibratechincs ones then
also, is it easy to fit an oil pressure gauge? Where do i come off to lead to the gauge?

I would stay away from exhaust wrap in favor of a high temp coating (ceramic) I had 2 incidents with my old 8v were the exhaust wrap actually damaged the manifold by holding the heat in so well it crystalized the metal. it then became extremly brittle and basically fell to pieces in my hand both times. The ceramic coating is a bigger cost up front but was cheaper than the 2 TSR mainfolds i bought in the long run. just my opinion. :) The TSR manifold is a good bit of kit though. I am running one on my 16v MKII with a drilled airbox and a K&N filter. makes quite a difference on the low and mid range. Also much needed if you plan on a performance worked head in the future. Good luck

You only really need to fit a vernier pulley when you've had your head skimmed to raise the compression ratio as it throws the standard marks off.

"I may aswell buy those vibratechincs "
DON'T! I have it on good authority - that vibratechincs engine mounts are sh!t.
From two VW specialists - and people who have had them fitted.
"you car will have a really tinny sound from the manifold"
this will lessen as the carbon builds up - deal with it and enjoy - I have a custom made 4-1 manifold and a newer type engine mount - and I have had no problems.
