Title: Alternator Workshop !
Post by: vwgolfv5 on 29 June 2013, 10:33
Still being new with my golf, I'm sure someone here will know the problem.
Yesterday, a few minutes after starting the car up I got a warning on my display saying Alternator Workshop and a beeping and the battery light was on.

When I stopped I could hear a strange noise coming from the engine bay, my first thought was the belt had snapped, but on inspection I could see what I can only describe as some sort of auto tensioner every few seconds clicking then moving and the noise stopped, after a few more seconds it would repeat the process.

As I could see the belt was not snapped I continued with my journey, no choice really as I was 16 miles from home.
After about 5 minutes of driving the warning disappeared and the battery warning light went off.
It has not done it since.

Suggestions ?

usally  just replace the brush / regulator pack and they are good to go again.

ether buy the repair part and fit yourself or find a loacl alternator /; starter specalist  and have them do it
