Title: New Edition 35 owner with a few questions, and hello..!
Post by: platinum70 on 27 June 2013, 19:51
Hi folks

Have recently swapped my much loved R36 for an Edition 35. Very different but so far so good. Just have a couple of questions...

Q. Is it easy to remove the rear GTi badge? I searched on here and dental floss seems to be the answer?

Q. Can you only connect an iphone 5 via Bluetooth for audio? The media lead (in the armrest) even with a lightning adaptor (with audio jack) doesn't work.

Thanks

Platinum

Hi, and welcom picking my ed35 up Saturday and counting the seconds. I also have heard about the iPhone 5 only working with Bluetooth. I'm wondering if there's an apple product out there to link them?

Hi mate mate, welcome to the Edi club!

I use a lightning adaptor and its fine. Is it a genuine Apple one? Are you using iTunes or an app, I have the Soundcloud App and hat defaults to Bluetooth but iTunes plays through the MDi cable. Don't forget to post ya pics.

Hi and welcome.  Congrats on getting an ed35.

My iPhone 5 works for audio via the media lead absolutely fine (with genuine Apple lightening adapter).   I get the full menu of playlists/songs/artists/ song titles etc, just the same as with an iPod.  I don't use a third party app, just play it as normal through inbuilt music app.  Bluetooth works fine too.

Pretty sure I had to set something onnthe rcd510'to stop defaulting to Bluetooth audio on my iPhone so it connected by midi

Not running a GTI badge on mine as had to be removed due to a scratch, never put new one on as I prefer just having a 35 on the right hand side

We need pics

Thanks for the help chaps and the welcome. Loving the car. Very different to the R36 but so far it is a joy to drive.  I will post some pic's as soon as I can. I have had the lower rear valance sprayed black after seeing Wigit's. Also got the GTI dead pedal metal cover which I have modified. Will take a picture and share it.

I have the Bluetooth set to auto connect. I bought a non apple lightning connector with built in audio jack. It charges but no sound or menu on the midi option.

@booth11 - I use the standard music app but nothing on 510 screen. I didn't think the lightning connector (Apple or not) carried audio?

@Wigit - is your car the one in the recent edition of Volkswagen driver?

It definitely carries audio on mine.    My understanding is that the lightning to 30pin adaptors do carry audio but don't carry video out.   My set up is: normal media cable (in arm rest) slotted into genuine apple lightning adaptor and connected into iPhone 5.

As well as iPhone 5, I've been using a 5th generation iPod touch for months via media cable/lightning adaptor with no issues.

Just a thought, try resetting your phone. You won't loose any data etc. I've just had to do it the wife's for the cab so wonder if it could be that?

Can you maybe borrow a genuine adaptor from someone to test it first to make sure it works before you buy one.  At £25 a pop they're not exactly cheap!!

Bought a genuine one yesterday with the short lead. £30.00..!! I asked for a return on the other one via Amazon and the seller issued a refund immediately, without me even returning it. Great service.

On another note I did the 'GTI' de-badge and added the '35' like Wigit has. Must say I think it looks better.

Open a photobucket account, upload ya pictures to that and copy and paste the IMG code onto your thread/ reply. If your using an iPhone or iPad, photobucket has an app which makes it loads easier.

Although you may want to change your signature as it looks more like steel grey rather than carbon grey on the pics?

I thought the actual colour was 'carbon steel grey'?? Although I don't know the colours..!! Loving the car. Such fun to drive. So far a good choice.....

It's steel grey mate and imo one of the very best colours for the mk6, although i might be a little bias? >:D

Was always unsure how steel grey would look with the grey glendale wheels but it looks good. 8)

Think Jimble means Watkins Glen wheels not Glendales

I love the colour and especially with the wheels. I was about to buy a white one then this came up. I did look at the blue but this (especially with the wheel colour) sold it for me

It's a lovely car in most of the colours. I like they grey, especially with the wheels.
