i noticed this morning, and at lunchtime that when my 16v's been sat cold for a while I have to keep revs up a lil otherwise it'll stall.. eventually it'll stablize at just over 1000 revs if i keep it going.. if I don't it'll stall. this is when i'm not driving around in it.. e.g. i stalled when reversing ever so slowly out of a space at work at a point when using just the clutch.
but.. if i've made a journey and then get back in again its fine.
any ideas/suggestions?
possibly its because i've just got the car and its been sat around for a bit before I got it.. ?

Check the coolant temperature sensor maybe?
-
ok, how would I do that?
btw.. today was my first 'real' day driving the car to/from work.. i'll see if its a regular thing.

Get the car on a fault reader for starters.
-
ok.. can I buy one cheaply? or would I have to pay the dealer..?
my cars a '97/R, saw on another thread that may affect things.

As on other thread, if you are near J3 M42, pop by and I'll read your fault codes for you FREE OF CHARGE using VAG-COM
www.ross-tech.com/vag-com
Dealer charges about ?50 and we normally charge ?20 - it does take just a couple of mins but the price includes half an hour trying to fix the fault also (rather than just read the code).
Cheers

/me looks at a map.. doh!
thanks for the offer, but i'm down in somerset.
if someone can point me at a cheap (<30 quid) reader that'll do the job i dont mind stumping that up, since i'm sure it'll pay for itself again one day :)

Have you tried TSR?
Grant at Grant Motorsport may be able to help too.
-
actually.. i'm taking my car into 'carshop' (www.carshoptaunton.co.uk) on monday so they can do me a CAT1 cert on the alarm (damn insurance), they're a vw/audi specialist.. if they can i'll get em to read me the code at the same time, they're pretty good people :)
oh and thanks for the names of those places.. TSR should be a 20 min drive from here if ever need em :)

or.... is this method possible?
