I don't think 3d effect or honeycombe background etc is legal. it all has to conform to certain height and spacing.
check the dvla website for the legal info mate.

has the company name and the BS number on. so from them aspects yes, not sure about the 3d effect letters and honeycombe etc. but if there made to the BS as it says then yes they are legal.(also I believe Halfords do 3d effect lettering and carbon fibre effect lettering so thinking about it you are proberbly ok having 3d effect lettering etc)

however why get 3d effect chavvy looking plates when you can get pressed plates for not much more.

look much better IMO and less chavtastic.

Any number plate supplied without docs is a show plate in plain and simple terms.

Trust me james i have done alot of reading up on plates before i got my pressed plates. To be legal they MUST be uk font. They MUST have the BS number on the bottom right hand corner and they MUST have the company that made them listed at the bottom in the middle. Chevk your current plates all this info will be on them. I have even pulled into a police stop and check on the side if the road once because i was worried and asked then to check my car. You should of seen there face lol but they confirmed that my plates are fine. :)
