right apart from a serious oil issue all over the air box ive now discovered that my engines cutting out when idle or slowing down now i can rectify this problem by shaking the tube between the throttle body and air box :undecided: anyone now whats going on
its a 16v 89
-
Have you also got oil all over the insides of your air box?
-
aye took the middle tube out yesterday(was doing it before i did that) and noticed that oil was sitting in the tube and gromits
-
What tube are you talking about? The one that goes across the front of the engine?
-
the tube that connects the throttle body to the airbox
-
oh and btw the smell of oil and petrol is quite strong if that helps
-
Sounds like you overfilled your oil dude it flows over the top and through all the air intake and kicks out big clouds of white smoke, U'll have to strip the air box and pipes give it a good clean and also the ISV will need cleaning could have done some engine damage as well although not sure what. also check for blockages in the pipe. good luck :)
-
right good advice m8 one slight problem picked it up from gaz last week we reckoned it was a blockage noticed no oil in car yesterday so dont think its that filled it up yesterday aint checked yet but from the smell i can well imagine its still doing it. will give all the pipes a good clean over the weekend and btw idleing is sitting well over 1000rpm.
ISV dont know what that is what does it look like

hello!!
-
seems funny youve only had running probs since the 'kwikfit' people removed your airbox to do that brake pipe, im sure theyve split a hose or havent reconnected 1, it deffo sounds like a leak mate, as for the oil i dunno. get it running right before you look into the oil thing. i put money on it one of them spanner heads has f@cked something up.
-
aye they deff f**ked it up gaz whats a spannerhead is it the metal hose that connects to the airbox
-
spanner head is prob the name of the numpty who f@cked it up whilst doin the brake pipe!! lol, check every pipe from throttle housing back to air box, the slightest crack/split will cause idling probs etc, sort that then youll have to see why its sucking oil into the air box, does sound like its been over filled or the pressure relief valve is stuck open??
-
pressure relief valve wheres that
-
im sure theres a ball spring type valve from the crankcase breather, follow the oily pipe from the air box (the one which goes in the middle of fan belt) thats your breather hose, folow it and it goes to a metal casting , im sure theres some kinda valve in there, id clean all the breather pipes whilst your at it...

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! f8ck sake i cant even idle now and the smell of petrol is getting worse dont goto sh!tFIT cowboy outfit who dont know sh!te....can someone tell me what the four metal braided hoses going into the top of the airbox are and if i remove them do i need to put them back a certain way...i.e adjusting them a certain way as i go along
-
GAZ whos that bird in your sig wouldnt mind meeting her
-
the braided pipes on the air box are your fuel lines to your injectors (1-4 and then cold start injector)
you shouldnt need to remove these or touch them, just unclip the top of airbox and then remove other pipes (air pipes not braided ones) and check for splits, if your getting a strong smell of petrol possible one of the fuel lines fractured when the numpty took all the airbox etc out..... sometimes it dosnt pay to let any one feck around with your vw unless they know what there doing!!
i still think you have a plastic/rubber pipe split somewhere, i cant offer anymore help with out being there m8!!
-
cheers will give it a go tomorow

Person i brought mine from filled it up to much.... Had the same problem with oil in the airbox, and tubing, plus up in the inlet manifold. Oil pressure light used to come on, engine used to accerate uneven, like it was cutting out.. really weird.. Anyways, i did an oil flush, and put new oil in to correct level, and cleaned the air filter, tubing, throttle body and inlet manifold as best i could.
It was fine then!
Knobby.
-
cheers when i rob my local bank will do what you suggested
-
UPDATE: its working...
well this morning i thought i would give all the oil lines a good clean and isv to see if it idles good on a cold startup best test imo
well did that took the airbox apart and gave it a clean in soapy water  now couldnt afford to replace air filter as absolute no money yet but as i said cleaned all pipes and box in water dried it of hooked it all back up started it and at cold it runs at about 950-1000 well chuffed pulls really well now just need to replace the oil drenched air filter and should notice a vast imporovement!!
more to come looks like the rear suspension is fooked will have to think about upgrading
need to remove dash as me being totally thick replaced the light switch for a gl 1
you can guess what happened it didnt fit and i made it fit  smoke fills the cockpit luckily enough did not catch fire will need to remove and see how much damage the wires has taken.
we all learn by our mistakes even when there so frigging stupid it makes u wanna cry
