Title: Night Blue GTI spotted.
Post by: SRGTD on 25 June 2013, 19:28
Seen a mk7 GTI in Night Blue the last couple of days, travelling on the A146 between Norwich and Lowestoft. AU13 ***. Was it a forum member?

It might have been the local VW dealer's demonstrator, as they have branches in Norwich and Lowestoft (I didn't notice if it had the ADC sensor in the front grille). It was sunny, and Night Blue looked good in the sunshine. The contrast of the red stripe at the front worked well with blue. For anyone who has ordered Night Blue, I think you'll be pleased with your colour choice.

It's really not a colour I like or associate with a GTI.  I do like the CSG, but other than that, it's gotta' be white, black or red!

I always thought Blue would look good despite the naysayers. (Gryzor he he ).  Must be a dealers car.  If a forum member had one they would surely not be keeping quiet about it!

If I'd ordered a Midnight Blue GTI, I would be

J/K guys, it's not *that* bad ;)

I would guess its a demo car. Night Blue isn't really a colour that appeals to me too but I thought it looked nice on the Mk5's.

I'm pretty sure this is Norwich VW (Robinsons) Demo Car.

There's lady that has a Night blue GTD at my work. I followed her into the car park the other day and thought it looked fantastic!
There's also a PW GTD at work that looked really plain when I saw it on Friday (it was really dirty). It's made me question my choice of PW for my GTI that's on order. However, my wife keeps telling me that white will look great.

I thought midnight blue was new to golfs for the mk7????

I've seen a night blue in the flesh and would be my second choice after CSG.

I'm ordering my new car at the beginning of the coming week and am really struggling with the colour.  I had my heart set on PW, but they had a TR one in the showroom that looked fantastic (never been a fan of red cars).

I really like the midnight blue, but haven't seen one in the flesh, although they look great in the ohoto's.  Saying that I don't like it £535 worth. Haha.

There seem to be so many PW GTI's around that it had put me off a bit, although it is a testament to how good they look in white. Think I may go with black...

Pardon my ignorance , but what is CSG?

CSG is carbon steel grey. Your right that PW has been most popular choice and there are quite a few on the roads but actually trying to spot another GTI is not easy as they are still very rare animals. Pure white is the dogs nuts and surprisingly quite easy to keep clean

Ah! That makes sense. That is a nice colour.

I'd love to go for the Oryx White, it looked stunning on the demo car I drove, but I just can't justify the £700 over PW.

Pure White is great!
I had a candy white Polo before this and covered 52k miles, the paintwork stood up extremely well condition wise :)

I live in the sticks the lanes are a joke around here at the moment which is one practical reason to avoid white, (plus the mrs wouldn't let me!) but seriously (I was being) re my job have to avoid high viz colours really its a co car and so I did well getting it past the MD! The Prius is far more in keeping.

What's yours, model/spec?

Title: Re: Night Blue GTI spotted.

There's no have to at this stage. My plan is to have the car ordered by the end of the week, just waiting to get the price that I want :)

i pondered the colour for a while, looking at French manufacturers they are are more risky with greens and copper golds. I thought of white, dirty lanes killed that quickly, then black noting the banner i already have a black polo and that's terrible to keep clean, then red i used to have a red gti over 20 years ago not much more reason than that!, silver doesn't excite me and not sure would look that good in the Gti, quite liked the limestone just to be different then one of my guys at work ordered one in that, then i looked at carbon grey, bit too grey i don't like grey find it a bit miserable!, which left blue which i always like in cars, and as above the mrs likes so what can i do!
Title: Re: Night Blue GTI spotted.
Post by: Jimmy Filth on 26 January 2014, 19:17
My thought process has been similar. Love the white, but that seems to be the most popular, carbon grey is also a great colour. Never been a fan of red cars. Silver cars remind me of rep mobiles... I love the car in black but know how hard it is to keep clean. It's a shame they don't do the blue clear coat colour in the GTi!

I'm sure it'll look damn good no matter what colour in the end

I also prefer the GTD wheels to the GTi ones...

I also prefer the GTD wheels to the GTi ones...

the std GTD or the 19 optional ones? (i like those despite look hard to clean)

you're right it will look great no matter, and inside where you spend the time it even matters less!

ive only got 4 sleeps and its killing me!

I'm going to have four months!! I'm still a little tempted by the R. It's only £2000 more that a GTi with PP... That's a justifiable reason, right?

why not, my colleague us thinking of doing just that, for me its about just being sensible with the inevitable compromises, and we all find them at different places.

i ordered mine the end of June, it didn't come until early December but had to wait until now for work reasons.

just had to put it out of my mind, not really thought about it until xmas but now its killlllllllllllling me, even booked Friday off to have a good play :)

Title: Re: Night Blue GTI spotted.
Post by: Jimmy Filth on 26 January 2014, 20:09
I think the GTi will win over the R because that £2000 may just be stretching me a little far, plus I think the resale value of the GTi will be more predictable, which is something I need to consider as I'm buying on PCP. Also, the missus really likes the Jacara and I have to have some way to justify the car to her...

But damn, the R looks good.

yes i like the seats, wouldn't have leather even if it was free, l like the nostalgic angle, i had a mk2 gti in the late 80's not tartan but were patterned!

Mine is a pretty standard 5dr Gti.

I agree with keeping a low profile, the only time its been noticed at work was when I reversed in and you could see the red stripe :D

In Germany you can get your GTI in a range of "out there" colours...  If you go to the VW site there is a massive selection of options on the configurator.  Note sure what that is called but it's too vibrant for Night blue.

nothing fancy or expensive, i took all the wax off last fri using a degreaser (took the day off to play with her!) after taking del on Thursday.  Not sure what it comes out of the factory with, or whether the dealers put something on it but it was poor at best.  Streaks and a long vertical one foot long under the wing mirror on drivers side surprising, it didn't bead water well when i washed it before putting it in the garage in one of the pics.  used Tcut blue colour, its a mild T Cut compared to a traditional pure T Cut for paint 'cutting' it also contains a wax. (you can see it on my car care toolbox in one pic im about to upload) . Put plenty on with a rotary pad electric buffer.  Polished it off with 3 every decreasing 'roughness' pad last being lambs wool.  I then did the same again 2 times with just a Carplan blue colour wax. Front bumper bonnet and mid part of door down 3 coats. if you scroll up there's a pic showing the shine, which im delighted with, sheds water, gave it a quick clean yesterday as live in the country it was muddied up since Friday, so there was plenty on it, just washed off with normal mains hose with nozzle on, chamois finish.

Very nice AP69, thanks for the info, definitely worth doing the additional layers. Some of the pics aren't showing but looking great in the others.

It's definitely become my favourite colour, I was going for CSG originally, but I felt the night blue will be more interesting to look at over the few years I'll have the car. The CSG just looks badass all the time, which is no bad thing of course :)

fixed the pics sorry, i liked CSG but thought it was a little too dark for my taste that's all, not a bad colour in the range, even seen the limestone which looks good. my tranny manager got a deal with free metallic on the blue and its the wife's favourite colour so a no brainer, couldn't be happier with it a week on, ok not the most efficient on juice, but 36 on a terribly stop starty commute through 2 towns and some brief but open country lanes isn't too bad. today passing a car and trailer was silly easy, its immense grunt low down is superb.

That looks amazing. I love the night blue and the rear light clusters, must look good with the rear LED's on.

Can't wait for my night gtd either (may for me).

Nice! BW15 is my estimate, unless it jumps forward of course - but it just seems to be the GTI's that are doing that!

At least when yours arrives I won't have tooo long to wait
