Tricky one.
1.4 1997 polo
Battery is good, reading 12.7v with the car off. When cranking it over from cold, it doesn't want to start, it kind of does, but it doesn't fire up. When bump starting it it starts up just fine. Once it's going and it's warmed up, it'll start off the key just fine. Checked spark and seems strong from the coil, vagcom didn't throw up any codes. Any ideas? Plugs, leads and cap are a few months old only.

Is your starter motor turning at a good speed
-
Throttle body it's semi electric on the 6n the cause of many issues. Try cleaning it
I've taken it you checked the dizzy cap and rotor arm?
Last thing is the warm feed on drivers side that uses a bimetallic valve to feed warm air from exhaust manifolds at the front of the car to speed warming up

Yup. Turns over just fine.
Will try cleaning the TB. Yes I've checked leads, cap, rotor and spark from coil. I replaced the plugs, leads, rotor arm and cap about 2 months ago, and it all worked just fine then.
Warm air feed wouldn't cause it not to start. It's not exactly -20 outside!

Does your engine have throttle position switches on throttle body. Have you checked you have good spark at coil end.
-
Spark is good at coil end yeah. Not checked for any throttle position switches. I'll have another look.

Update. Cleaned out the throttle body, it was very clogged. Started first time but when opening the throttle it'd bog down and try to die. Anyway it eventually cleared as it warmed up and off I went. 5 minutes later my mate called me saying it wouldn't start again. Back I went and I cleaned out the earths and tried to start it up. Eventually it did get going without any bogging down and it drove fine. I fear it'll be a problem to start again at some point. Any suggestions? I reckon throttle body is faulty, maybe the tps. He's going to run some redex through see if that helps, could also be a partially clogged fuel line.

Them throttle are always a pain every 6n I've nearly seen and owned had issues and a new TB is around 120.
e other awful thing I found even with no gasket issues is the breather would always mayo up and run down to the throttle.

Very common problem on the polo is the temp sensor. My other half had the same problem on hers. Trouble starting from cold and hot.
-
Throttle body changed and still has the same issue. Temp sensor didn't show up on vagcom, I would have thought it would show up if it was faulty. Has anyone got any other suggestions?
-
Anyone?

could be dirt in fuel tank getting drawn in to pump and jamming it. then the dirt drains down and off it goes again. try a fuel pressure test.

The temp sensor will not throw up faulty codes. For the sake of £20 and ease of change its worth eliminating it.
