Title: Rear tyres rubbing on bumps
Post by: spudboy6 on 25 June 2013, 15:24
So I fitted some new wheels
7j et20 15".  And they rubbed like mad.  Had the front lips rolled the rears rolled and flared all good , but now on hard bumps the tyres hitting up inside the actual wing now on the back , so I need to find some sort of way to stiffen the rear up before I kill the edge of my tyre. Wheels clearing the actual arch lip , just catching up in the 3/4 pannel now :(

Its lowered 60/40 on ta technics shock and springs.  So do I need a better quality stiffer spring on the back or better shocks ?

Different tyres probably needed. What you running now?

Hazarding a guess I'm gonna say your tyres are too big or the shocks are knackered as 15" wheels and only a 60mm drop should not rub,  let alone with rolled arches all round.

Smaller tyres for sure! And a set of jom coilovers will keep it stiff.

My 9j et20 dont rub  and thats with 195.45.16

Your not running spacers are you?

No spacers , 195/50/15

It rubs the very outside and sidewall can still carry 3 people In The car no problem but bloody bumps.  It clears the arch and the wheel jut hits the top and I have bump stops on the shocks aswell

I've noticed there isn't much clearance straight up inside as its double skin

The shocks don't look like they've leaked only 10months old at most , but the rear springs are like cheese so soft !

May try a smaller rear tyre ?

No point your problem is your springs

Switch to coilovers which would be stiffer plus et20 is always going to be tight for clearance.

Yup, those tyres should be fine really. It's got to a shock / spring issue.

Ill get up on the ramp next week to check the springs and shocks over , i doubt its my shocks as i cant see any leaks from them , the car is stiff static even with me jumping on the sil and boot ,

how soft are your rear springs , as in if the wheel was off the ground could you squeeze the coils together ? im sure mine are just cheap sh*t but need to be sure before i throw even more money at it ,

and what make springs should i replace them with ?

apex would be alright wont they or any of the venom stuff ?
