Title: Carbon Grey metallic
Post by: Hawaii-Five-O on 24 June 2013, 22:30
Tried really hard to get some decent close-up pics of the Carbon Grey metallic GTI I looked at today. Not easy. It really is a lovely colour and nice to know its unique to the GTD/GTI.

Here's the best I could get.

Lovely colour, just a little toooo dark for me.

Same for me.
It's just going to show up everything.
The other greys don't light my fires either. Bring back Steel Grey!! Or Iridium Grey as found on the Scirocco.

So it's always going to be white for me. VW's advertising people can't be wrong can they?!!

Do folks on here not like the fact that's its exclusive to the GTD/GTI?

I think that's a big plus point.

It did look mint in the metal.

Will it really be 'that' bar to keep clean?

Thats what swung it for me to move from DSP -> CSG (apart from the fact that it wasnt clear CSG was available). A bit of exclusivity from a normal golf

Was at St.Albans VW today and finally saw the white GTI in the flesh and had a real good look around :)

Only confirmed how much the white accentuates all the lines of MK7 and particularly the lines of the rear arches which makes car look nice and wide and with lowered suspension give it real presence, that understated intent we all love.

The GTI was dusty from obviously being out on demo but returning to my black Audi you could see how far more noticeable the day to day dirt is seen on the black - The white definitely does a better job of concealing it and think dust serves more to dull the shine than really stand out.

Now comes the controversial part (s) or not really as the camp is split anyway, but the red stripe through the headlights is like Marmite! You love it or you hate it, and now I love Marmite but that red stripe through lights? just looks wrong - I want to like it, overlook it! but simply cannot.

There was a MK6 MY12 CSG GTI there too and I must admit think it looks better as a GTI than the MK7 GTI and mainly due to the damn stripe, I like the double stripe isolated to the grill far more - Lovely looking car that MK6 in CSG :)

Given the size of chrome exhausts think I do genuinely prefer them side by side also but that is a minor note at best based on personal preference.

One thing did notice on exhausts was how blackened they were to point hardly see chrome! and that surprised me as my present diesel ones are nowhere near that bad just some mild surface blackening. Is that normal on GTI Petrol?

All served to confirm my thinking prior that the GTD loses nothing in styling over the GTI and in fact (it maybe being biased but think am objective) maybe shades it with the Nogaro alloys and due to the removal of red features.

Remember we talking fine details in this forum on this and that and particularly in preference and my overall impression was wow! and has only made the wait even worse

One thing did today with all talk about performance recently on here is remind myself of what my 170BHP has to offer and it was not left wanting at all in general traffic, instant power on tap and with a smile generating surge of acceleration, and on Motorway blew past some traffic from a rolling 60 to 70  without having to drop a gear :) My present has enough for me already under the hood so performance is certainly not a concern give there is going to be more BHP and torque in the GTI suit.

Yeah on your above point about soot on the exhausts its a VW trait on the performance petrols. Both my 2.0 TSI Scirocco's have had the same issue but a Brillo pad sorts it right out.

An engineer friend of mine mentioned that VW likely run the engines rich as this reduces core engine temperature to increase engine longevity.

Anyone that doesn't like the stripe in the headlights could get a set from a GT and ebay the GTI ones.

Not sure how easy the GTI ones would sale as look pretty strange unless replacing a damaged unit but think I would be very tempted as would no way detract from being a GTI and in fact make a little statement to VW that was far from everyone taste come the MK8

So it is you responsible for all that soot on tailpipes then!  LT13 VXV is the plate and you can see she been well used as quite dusty on body and wheels/calipers and some tar marks etc.

Only seen TR before and the white certainly brings out the lines, many not even noticed before.

How hard would Carbon Grey be to keep clean, compared to Pure White?

exactly the reason I didn't go for carbon grey and that was the upkeep of it. mines left on a busy main road at night and not garaged ever. if I had a garage or off road parking then it would have been different.

Seagull sh!te is my biggest concern - Seagulls everywhere around me. They feed from the Fish Quay then fly a quarter of a mile to my house to rest on the roof and have a sh!te all over the cleanest car they can see.

This is my only concern with the csg, it's off street but the seagulls round Hartlepool love my roof

Carbon Grey is still the best colour - 3 x Mk6 GTD's in it and new Mk7 GTD is BW 34!

You've had 3 mk6 GTDs?

What are you doing to them?
