Just had the outer sills patched up on my GTI, and am going to put the will trims back on. The only problem, there is of course nowhere for the screws to go in to on the new metal, to hold the trim in place. Was thinking of using some self tapping screws but don't want to allow any rust to rear its head again! Suggestions?

I would just screw them back on but dip the screws in grease first. then you could spray waxoil into the sills from the inside.
-
Leave them off and avoid problems in the future.

I was thinking of removing my sill trims. U think it looks good/good move?

Well I binned the sill covers and arches on mine, I think it looked ok however some people think that it is no longer a GTI if you remove them.
-
I want mine off but I'm terrified of what I might find, i was extremely lucky when the arch trims were removed but i know that the inner sills lips are crushed which only mean the inevitable lurking behind the plastics.

I'm definitely going to put them back on....it was only a patch and plate job so doesn't look too neat, though has been done well. The complete sills are also now caked in underseal, and I was going to also waxoyl the crap out of them before the trim went back on.

Same lol

DON'T use self tappers. That what someone had done to mine. The screw rusted and spread from there. New arch needed.
-
Just use some light lubricating oil with anti corrosion properties and use screws

They look alot smarter with them on i think. Sill/Arch trims give it character tbh. Infact majority of us on the forum have got them on.
-
I'm going to use some stainless self tappers, screw them in, remove them, spray underseal in to the hole, then put the screw back in coated in copper grease! Should be okay!
-
Is the bottom section of the sill sealed on?

I am albeit one who's recently been made redundant and broke my shoulder 3 days ago.

Holy shizzle dude what happened :undecided:
-
Is it hard to remove the bottom half which is bonded on?
-
Ive never taken mine off james, might do it at the weekend as I could do with a giggle
-
Coincidently Id got myself a few days welding work locally which I walked off site on the second day due to the piss poor working conditions and shoddy job management.
In my haste to leave whilst carrying my f**king heavy toolbox I went arse over tit on the loose ground which resulted in me fracturing my shoulder.
Looks like i won't be working... Or doing much else tbh for quite some time - motherf**k*r!
-
No way,bit of a crap bone to break really, probably take months to heal that will.
Get well soon bud !
-
Yeah really sh!t actually as you can't really do anything with it apart from wear a sling and even that iI pissing me off already. I kinda wish I'd broken my arm or wrist instead as at least I could have had a cast put on it and carried on virtually as normally.
This is gonna seriously hamper my Golf tinkering now and not to mention put a quash on my impending drift trike tomfoolery this summer.
