Hey guys, My misses got me a spare AUM rocker cover because she knew I wanted to get mine in a chrome effect.
anyhoo my neighbour was nice enough to take it to work and get it washed in a parts washer for me :) came out nice I think :)

Now this is where I cannot make up my mind...
My neighbours dad offered to have it painted at his works (high end body shop where Aston martins, Ferrari's etc get repaired)
in any colour I want, except chrome/mirror finish sytle for FREE!!
Or I have had a price with a local powdercoater to powder coat it for me for £40.
Or I could look into getting someone to polish it up :undecided:
Help me make my mind up please
-
I went for polished and it's pretty annoying, it does need polishing from time to time and mine has been neglected. What does the rest of your engine bay look like? That might help with your choice.

I have seen your build and I must say I love your rocker, I like how you smoothed all the busy bits on the top, how did you do that?
anyhoo heres my engine bay :)

Powder coat Black or Red for yours I would say
-
Red vote here
-
mate like i said it needs to be BRIGHT PINK!
but if you were to get serious i would say either hot-rod red or chrome :smug:
-
I need to decide on a colour for all mine, I'm going to be getting the majority of mine powder coated, rocker cover, inlet manifold, K04 charge pipe and any other bits I think I can do :)
My piping is mainly black, but I cant decide between going for something a bit different maybe a bright yellow and black theme! or just boring silver lol one extreme to the other
-
I don't like the idea of red I think it would be overkill on the red side of things.
-
hmmmmmmmm. Black
-
powder coated black does look smart!
-
Red, and then get the manifold in red also
-
Mines all crackle/wrinkle black.... /endthread
-
Crackle black along with inlet AND throttle body.
-
candy blue
-
With all the red in there already I think doing it in red will be to much plus the inlet manifold will need to be done as well to make think look right. If your set on keeping the red pipe work black or some sort of dark crackle efect in my mind is the only thing that's going to look right. If you go with a different colour that's going to be like 5 colours in the bay.
You could go with the crackle effect and do a few small bits round the bay to match like the bottle tops and so on.
-
Hmmmm some great advise but after alot of thinking im gunna go for the chrome mirrored effect i also got an inlet on its way to me. Does anyone know the price of the two gasket kits im going to need?
-
don't know the name of the paint, could be the crackle paint mentioned above. but I think a base layer of red then black "crackle paint" the stuff that cracks as it dries and would leave red lines, could look smart.
or get it polished up, then get paint, put on brush and pull the bristles back so that dods of paint come off and splat all over, do it in a few different colours including some fourescent. could look cool
-
"could" look cool
or really tacky lol

Is off a TSI engine lads - part number is 06J 971 824 B
You will have to trim it slightly at the right hand side, and also make a small hole for your earth as I have done.
Think its about £7.50
Its all about the little details
