For anyone who's gone for the panoramic sunroof, there's an excellent video showing it in operation here :

Don't think it's been posted before

1: It looks the same size as a regular sunroof from inside the car.
2: How sh!t does that windbreak thing look when the roof is slid back :undecided:
-
Mmmmmm.... Nice vid, but I'm not "Sold"... Looks OK overall, but the wind deflector on the front doesn't really do it for me. Funny enough the Pano roof looks better closed than open.
-
Nice find, i've gone for it although i'm not sure how often i'll have it fully open, that wind break is a bit ugly but it serves a purpose i suppose.

It looks much bigger than a regular size sunroof, and it also looks much better. It's an amazing optional extra that makes the roof a lot more interesting. Even closed it looks much better than the plain, standard roof.
The windbreak doesn't look amazing but it's there for a reason and serves it's purpose. How good can you make a windbreaker look really.
-
I suppose the only consolation is that it looks a darn sight better than the wind deflector found on the Merc E-Class Cab!!!
-
Getting dead flies out of the wind deflector is going to be a full time occupation. Better get practising...
-
My X-Trail has the Pano roof and the windbreaker has never needed to be cleaned. The dead bugs just dry up and disintegrate.
I think it looks great and the black roof just sets the car off nicely.
-
The blind on my Sharans sunroof is fully automatic I notice its manual on the golf, also you can open the roof to preset positions on the sharan. :undecided:
-
I love the sunroof in my 6 GTI, looking forward to the sunroof in my 7 GTI. To be honest I don't care what the wind deflector looks like for oncoming drivers, I can't see it but will get the pleasure of the open space (weather permitting )
-
Not a fan of that.
Ugly, noisy and that wind deflector!
Not sure what was wrong with a standard sunroof.
I love a sunroof for the light and air but I would not order that.

Noisy how?

Noisy how?
when the roof is open its very noisy even a low speeds

Isn't that what the windbreak is for?

its the wind break that causes the noise,i think its there to stop anything from entering the car e.g flies, hence the reason it traps so many

It's just to prevent the turbulence in the cabin, same as if you open the window and then your hair goes all over the place...(if you have any hair that is). It shouldn't cause any more noise, it will be no more or less noisy than any other sunroof or window for that matter.

speaking from experience as I have one on my sharan it is noisy more so than any other car I have been in with a sunroof. Also I wouldn't recommend you have it open at high speed .

I agree, high speed not recommended. I won't be taking it over 30 with it open. Last car I had a sunroof on over 30 it would start to resonate the whole roof. But stick to low speeds and there should be little noise I'd expect?

Does the one on the Sharan go outside the body when it's open like the mk7?
-
Yes it looks to be the same roof, the only difference is on the sharan you get another fixed glass panel that is behind the one that moves, effectively it's twice the size .
-
I have to say I was also tempted seriously in configuring my GTI with the Pano Roof, it looks good when closed. But after seeing the video I am glad I didn't. The Wind Deflector is fugly!
I am also concerned if I do drive at high speeds with the roof open it may cause minimal drag or problems with the roof vibrating etc, as others have mentioned.
In my opinion, best use the Air Conditioner more, it may be cheaper.
-
Well if you see me cruising by @ 20Mph on a sunny day I will stick my arm out the roof and throw you a wave.
Besides, the car looks awesome with the black roof continuing from the front windscreen.

Granted it does look nice if the body colour is light, looks good on white cars but is lost on the darker colours

Ahh ok, just wondered if it would make a difference to the noise if the glass goes outside rather than inside the roof? They're not too noisy when tilted though are they?

Quite right, hence the reason I chose to order it with the white.

Fine when tilted and doesn't look to bad from the outside either

That'll do me then, thanks mate!
