Right my 91 8v gti has a problem at first when I turned on my ignition my fuel pump relay would either click very rapidly or the fuel pump just wouldn't stop priming and the car wouldn't start on either, after fiddling about it finally started and it drives, it sounds a bit rough on idle and when I put my foot down it just won't go like it should and when I hit 5000rpm it takes aggeesssss to move to 6000. Any ideas ?

It could be that 8 of the required amount of valves are missing.

Touchè

Turns out the other 8valves kill my insurance

Not surprised my last Mk2 was slow a sh!t near that range. It is not a fast car.

A 16v really comes alive that range

Well my car has never been this slow its only been the past few days and the idle is also rough now

Tk it to a Vw garage or good mechanic and get a full service etc then. You have to understand that the 8v has good low down torque but after 4000 ish its sluggish
-
But it still pulles well all the way to the limiter well mine did anyway and now it struggles past 5 and even getting there past 2-3k it's very slow

Quick update, seem to have solved my problem, my valve timing was out but I have a new coil temp sender and plug leads on the way :)

Don't expect any miracles tho

Don't need to there just a bit old especially the coil 22 years
